Artists made more money in the peak of piracy than now.

that’s what they say but I don’t believe it

Which of those artists are indie

Brent Faiyaz has never signed a deal

    J. Cole has been independent since The Off-Season

Hit-Boy been independent since beginning of 2025

    Omarion been independent since 2020

Has more to do with the mentality around music I reckon.

People do see streaming as cheaper when really it’s much more expensive and you own nothing.

I agree it trained some brains to feel entitled to all music . Suddenly group buying leaks but not buying an artist album . It’s basically a gateway to pirate so you own their music without ever helping their charts or billboard. With the end statement of “ they barely get paid anyway “

She said in the video indie strategy . So why he focused on them being indie when EVEN is more similiar to a band camp I just decided to not respond . That user has no form of comprehension and just wants to argue

    J. Cole is not signed to Interscope. he purchased all his masters and only uses them as a distributor. New project wasn’t even a Dreamville project, strictly Cole World

the other 3 are independent distributors with major affiliates, from my understanding, not record labels

Actually we're not doing the "Brent's $50 million deal is just indie artist stuff"

Same as when A24 pushes an "indie film" with its Guggenheim Partners and Eldridge Industries resources

    We're not dumb

Lucki already exposed these new age distributors lol. If you aren't uploading through a tunecore/distrokid adjacent you're not independent. They offer label services and financial backing just like any traditional label does.

Brent Faiyaz has never sat down with a major record label

the nigga does festival sets still to this day he ain’t in the major artist umbrella lmfao

just because he signed a huge distribution deal after proving his independence don’t make him a signed artist. he still owns all his music, ISO Supremacy is an indie label with leverage just like LVRN. I don’t think the CEO of Interscope is telling 6lack he’s signed to a record label after fighting to get him independent leverage on LVRN following his last terrible deal and just distribution which is an entirely different business model just stop. you conflating money with some other s***, weak argument

imagine 2 black men like Larry or Steve leveraging there decades of work to establish an independent vehicle for artists just for dudes on here to put them at the SAME LEVEL as the major label system they are actively fighting against and just well connected enough to still do business with you dudes ridiculous man. what will it take for people to be independent and funded greatly? no funds? make it make sense cause that’s you just said lol

So being signed to an indie label that has major label distribution makes you independent? Just to clarify, is that what you think?

that’s what it is bruh, idk what you think you arguing but it’s well understood that this is an independent artist. you arguing just to argue cause of semantics and wording. 21 savage has been doing it his entire career and owns all his masters, not the distributor or UMG who just own the rights to distribute. just stop lmfao

very in line with general music industry strategy of activating superfans, however, this is probably just gonna be more inflated bullshit showed down everyones throat for extra price

  • Feb 19

hopefully they dont start upending currently existing communities around certain artists and introduce some kinda corporate overwatch into it
