I didn't mean this season lol, just in general

I see, I agree with your argument. Let's take Arsenal and Tottenham like the other user said. They would be permanent members while clubs like Sevilla have been performing way better in Europe during the last decade. S*** is sad.

It's greed in its purest form. Anyone backing it has no understanding of the beauty & meaning of football.

Merely a way for the rich to get richer.

For sure but I think with how powerful clubs are now, this was coming. Hate to sound defeatist but 🤷🏽 It’s been talked about for almost a decade

Football fans are being dramatic, if u don’t like this u shoulda never been watchin the UCL in the 1st place

Missing the point again. This is NOT the UCL where you EARN the spot based on merit & performance through 38 games. This is owners who have no idea about the history of the clubs joining together to guarantee spots they don't deserve & rake in profits, with some of those owners on the executive board of the league.

Tottenham, Arsenal etc guaranteeing spots they wouldn't earn & that's ok?

Yep - it's been talked about for years but to see the outright greed in front of your eyes makes me embarrassed to be a United fan. Doesn't make it any easier to see.

I don't support super clubs only, I support my local club even more.

A club that won a major European trophy in 1967 & a club that will never get the chance to compete against the big players if the Super League happens, even though it was always a mainstay in European competitions and reached the 2nd phase of a major European competition twice in the past 3 years, this year - ironically - by knocking out f***ing TOTTENHAM, a team that will play in the Super League.

A club that raised or had a hand in raising players like Luka Modric, Zvonimir Boban, Mateo Kovacic, Mario Mandzukic, etc.

I know that the days when clubs like Red Star Belgrade or Steaua Bucharest could win the CL are gone, but there was always a possibility of smaller clubs doing great like Deportivo La Coruna, Monaco, Porto, have in the past few decades etc.

This project is a spit in the face of any f***ing true football fan & honestly F*** anyone that supports it.
    #againstmodernfootball

I 100% sympathize with you. This is terrible for a local fan. Never will they get to see their team compete at the top in a proper division.

The game’s gone mad. I can only offer you moral support. ❤️

this s*** is inevitable, UEFA was already planning to make it this way in 2024, what the 12 clubs just did is that they decided to take the whole cake instead of settling with the crumbs (especially those who don't win the competition) and all this "warfare" on them is because UEFA knows this is the end of their rule over football

PSG has been money laundering with the UEFA for far too long and clubs like Barca, Madrid are suffering in debt and then you got deals like Haaland or Mbappe where the agent wants 20m euros and noone can pay for it but PSG and Man City lmao, This had to happen. football fans are being dramatic

improve by getting huge investments from overseas backers who pay slave wages and have terrible human rights records in their own countries

Football as a business long hasn't been the beautiful game you're describing
Leicester was a once in a lifetime anomaly, it was great to see but it's not to be expected, and their winning goes against the way the Premier League is already set up

Im not defending modern football or any of that

this project is literally just greed personified. The owners want an endless stream of income without risk

And leicester winning the league wasn't an anomaly, it was certainly unexpected but not impossible. The super league would make it impossible for these "anomalies" to even occur in the first place

You're missing the point entirely. That 'once in a lifetime' is the beauty of the game. The FA Cup has a long history of the 'giant killers'. By doing this bullshit you're removing everything, performance isn't based on merit - it's based on how much money the owners can pump in & perceived status.

The only motivation for this is outright greed.

    Of course its greed
    Everything is greed

I just don't respect the sanctimonious attitude people are having as if financial fair play isn't already abused every summer by some of the mega powers

Financially its not the beautiful game, hasn't been for a long time

You have to qualify for the UCL each season, so technically every season the best teams compete. There's no 15 guaranteed spots for founding clubs.

However, with the updated UCL I think that might be changing too.

Bruh who gives af bruh stop thinkin bout jus England, clubs in Italy like Inter and Milan have never been relegated, a bulk of Italian viewership from the UCL comes from clubs like this, why shouldn’t they want to receive their cut of the profit they deserve?

Exactly. I think people here see UEFA as the “good guys” almost but they literally approved their new format this morning.

Think of the balls Perez has to do this to a competition his club has won 13 times. There’s money to be made and that’s what fuels the modern game.

We can not like it but we should be aware. Look at Chelsea, City, PSG. This will keep happening. The UCL itself - only the biggest teams make it this far because of infrastructure and resources.

everyone is commending PSG for not being in the ESL but PSG has direct ties to Qatar and Qatar probably doesn’t want to antagonize FIFA so close to the World Cup. They will join when they can as well (should this even happen)

Part of me thinks this is all a bargaining chip anyway

  • Stop callin these clubs greedy but not acknowledging UEFA is being greedy here themselves, they don’t care bout the integrity of the game or nun of that s***. They never have and never will

UEFA is pretending they are protecting the integrity of the game when they are jus worried bout their pockets, if these teams decided jus not to compete in the UCL and create no league UEFA wouldn’t pushback as hard they jus scared to lose money

Money in football here is not the sole problem.

As Neville said - 'The principles and ethos of fair competition & the right to play the game so that Leicester win the league, they go into the Champions League. Manchester United aren't even in the Champions League, Arsenal aren't even in the Champions League.. absolute shambles of a football club at the moment, Tottenham aren't in the Champions League and they want a God given right to be in there?'

There is no merit to this league. The UCL is so different, it truly is not comparable.

Lol if u are arguing “these leagues are gonna ruin domestic leagues and cups by creating this league “

Then u are indeed siding wit UEFA my man, UEFA is the only reason why these teams participate in domestic leagues/cups, these teams have broken no rules yet UEFA insists on banning them

That is fault of UEFA not these clubs

How is that any different to football for the past couple decades prior to yesterday tho?

If this was made 20 years ago teams like leverkusen ajax and valencia would have been invited and that's never happening today

Atletico have been a good team for barely 10 years and tottenham have been half decent for like 5 lol

While there's that handful of teams that are always gonna be part of the big clubs the landscape is always changing, this current system is only gonna benefit these same 12 teams for the long term
