She should have done a whole album with Madlib

Song isnât that great but we should reserve judgement for the album when it actually drops.
feel like the hate of this song stems from it being 10 yrs since erykah has released new music and this being the very first offering. its a cool song, dope even
hoping for upwards of 15 tracks from them. i think the more music the better this song will sit within the context of a full presentation. also think the song would be recieved better if they (erykah+alchemist) showed face with a music video or even some actual world building artwork and really sold us on their creative endeavor rather than do the artificial intelligence thing.

This s*** lowkey just not a good pairing. And is bound to be a tipping point for Alâs style getting old because we expect more music on an erykah album over loops. Her singing on loops just ainât it

agreed that she goes over better with more dynamic production but she's always got down with some loops as well. so idk i respect it tho, i understand why this song is polarizing, im not trying to convince anyone otherwise.

LETS GOOOOOO
The track is fire

@2words yall do realize Didnt Cha Know is just a loop bro
It got nothing to do with loops or what ppl think of erykah, this just not good production lol,

I was gonna make this exact comment twin⌠donât cha know, on and on, fall in love. A lot of these are largely just loops with little embellishments or extra layers on top. Which alchemist could easily do
Even the boring single isnât just a loop. They isolate the drums for some turnarounds and add bass in the second half

One of my fav later career offerings from queen is literally her rocking over a dilla loop.

They dont wanna say it twin.

No itâs not just a loop in the same sense that this song is at all lol it has drums on it and additional layers and switch ups for the verse and chorus sections (going off memory). They played live bongos on it. Itâs not just a loop

On and on is a whole band playing how tf is that a loop. Now yall just saying s***.
A band playing the same chord progression repeating isnât a loop itâs a vamp

Also the focusing on what is and isnât loops and conflating old stuff is just missing the main point that Alchemist drumless loops is a whole different thing thatâs deliberately stripped down and basic/raw/minimal in execution in a way that the other songs being brought up arenât. Itâs not really about a loop specifically itâs about Alchemistâs very specific and at this point infamous use of them, without the P affiliation.
So yeah it is about it being not good production but itâs also because thereâs nothing put into it besides one loop, which is not the case for Didntcha know. Like alchemist be dropping beats that have one stem. Thatâs the difference. And thatâs what Iâm referring to when I say âjust a loopâ

Itâs a band playing that they loop for most of the song. The term loop isnât shackled to looping a sample. Itâs very rare for even live band music these days to not be using loops of their drummer playing, loops of the guitar riff once the guitarist has nailed it etc.
For on and on, Theyâre playing 4 bars over and over. The music repeats throughout the entire song. 95% of that song is the same 4 bars.
Like I said, there is embellishments, some small layers on top to keep the song going, and structuring/sequencing but as a finished product, it functionally isnât an insane amount of levels above something alchemist could work on.

I get you but use context, obviously when Iâm saying is applying to these lazy loops alchemist be doing and isnât relating to any beat that utilizes looping, why would you ever assume that lol. âWell actually a lot of songs use loopsâ yeah no s***, respectfully cmon. Like I said, these Alc beats be having literally one stem. Instead of calling it drumless or loops Iâm calling it stemless from now on

Who gives af how many stems something has. Most of Madlibâs beats would probably only have one stem.
Jacob Collier or Charlie Puth music 100% has more stems than any dilla, Madlib or dj premier beat. It means nothing
Letâs for an experiment imagine that on and on was sampled. It wasnât played originally, none of that music was original. the producer found that beat on a record and chopped those portions out and sequenced it, it would then only be on one stem. Would that make on and on bad all of a sudden? Iâd still love that song BECAUSE Erykah wrote an amazing song on top of it.
The number of stems or effort put in doesnât matter. It helps, but I love both!
I love the f*** out of MIKE, Madlib, Alchemist, Dilla beats where itâs one stem. Expertly crafted sample sequencing to make an amazing beat solely out of an old records puzzle pieces
There are one stem sample beats that are harder than 500 stem overproduced modern dr dre type rap beats.
And ofc there are one stem beats that are boring and suck.
