Lmao
It’s a private company it do what they want
He does have both IMO, even if it seems hollow
Unions have been a big thing recently, and most info has been spread out over Twitter
I don't think he's that involved in that stuff to be honest. If all he cared about was union busting or something it'd be way easier and cheaper to take other routes as a multi-billionaire than just buying up a social media site that makes no money w/ a collateralized loan based on your holdings in the biggest chunk of your net worth. When billionaires make financial decisions to bolster other parts of their financial agenda, you can usually trace the money. The deal here doesn't really imply that, it seems hasty and financially absurd, something which only makes sense if it's done for personal reasons. If was buying a newspaper (i.e. Bezos buying WaPo), I'd agree, but the sheer amount of money and stupidity of risk here doesn't make sense for that purpose - the thing is that when these billionaires make that level of financial decisions, it's really not one person (even though its attached to one perosn's net worth publicly), it's usually groups of advisors, managers, etc. centered around managing someone's capital. No one like that from any traditional financial background would approve of something like this.
Twitter plays a big part in global culture and discourse/information spread, and all that power being in the hands of someone as impulsive as Elon is scary
How Elon is impulsive 🤔
Going off his memes that he tweets?
Or going off his decade long master-plans that he made for his businesses that have catapulted him to success?
how is it that elon, who actually has f*** you money and could post the most offensive stuff all day without ending up in the poorhouse, seems to be one of the few people to understand that messing with the ambiguity in the terms of service has much less of a chilling effect on speech than eradicating anonymity/pseudonymity
well he's been a silicon valley OG since like day 1 timeline-wise, so he basically has an idea of how the entire landscape was formed.

Yup if he buys and it fails itll be his biggest loss ever, teslas been a monster and space x still hasnt gone public.
Crazy move cuz twitter doesnt really turn that much of a profit.

I really don’t like Silicon Valley
Tech-utopianism under capital has brought us to our worst nightmares
It was always impossible, when technology was always the real mechanism behind power
Ppl saying theyll leave wont leave, theyre addicted to social media.
you'll have to be more specific
Lmaoo 99% of "journalists" on there can catch a ban. You see the word journalist in someone bio you know some bs about to follow lol

he collateralized the purchase of twitter w/ a loan from morgan stanley based on his holdings in tesla. If this was to fully tank to the extent that elon ever defaulted on the loan, then a massive chunk of his net worth is obliterated and tesla will essentially be under new ownership, hence probably why the current twitter board approved this, they know what they're being paid with vs the chances of Twitter actually ever making money

i can tell you working adjacent to silicon valley everyone who works there in like non-entry level positions is either like a narcissist, freak, or psychopath with few exceptions lol

I think everyone should watch Elon’s TED talk from a couple weeks ago where he talks about his plans for twitter.
Free speech within the limits of the law
(Abide by US laws, mentioned multiple times)
Open source the algorithm, no BS behind the scenes, shadowbanning, etc
Maximize trust in platform
Make it broadly inclusive
Hate Elon all you want, he doesn’t lie
same thing with Kanye tbh
Don’t know who would be worried about this. Let’s hope it happens & he doesn’t f*** it up

it's crazy its legal for platforms w/ over a certain amount of usership that people have ENTIRE CAREERS SOLELY BASED ON (i.e. Youtube, Twitch) are allowed to have completely non-public algorithms tbh. This is like one of the few things I agree with tech bros like Elon on. It needs to be illegal for multi-billion companies to not disclose how their algorithm works. The excuse is always "well if it's public then bad actors will exploit it", like mf they already are who tf cares
It’s definitely a bad thing. Elon Musk is too politically biased to own a platform like this

Fully agree. I really wonder how much these social media algorithms affected the 2016 election, and the 2020 election to an extent
Would Trump have lost 2016 without the social media engagement? đź‘€
