In the past weeks I have been getting so many elon Musk related tweets recommended on my timeline. Something is odd

I made a brand new account and it was the first follow suggestion

  • CrimsonArk

Given his whole “free speech” shtick, you can probably expect a lot more open and out there racism, homophobia, xenophobia and transphobia with little to no repercussions.

Also an onslaught of misinformation that’s never fact checked from major sources (i.e. COVID/Vaccine disinformation from prominent people).

Also, Elon doling out bans to anyone who hurts his ego or feelings.

    twitter is already like that
they try fight misinformation but its poorly done

if he actually structures the deal in a manner under which he has full control of the company (not inherently the case depending on corporate structure), he will 100% try to force a full identity verification system. Elon has made it clear in interviews and stuff (lex fridman for example) he hates anonymity online - I have a feeling a large part of this is because he feels insecure about the ability for people to s*** on him w/o him knowing who it is, or his obsession with "spambots". If he actually does this realistically you're not gonna see much explicit hatred anymore than what already exists, because the only reason people act like that online is the mask of anonymity - the only people who don't do this are boomers who sign up with names like @ SusanMichaels023232424 or whatever, and they're already espousing the limits of their beliefs online.

People really be on Instagram/Facebook that’s controlled by Zuckerberg and have no issue

But if Elon gets Twitter, that’s an issue?

Zuckerberg is way worse in every way, man

    These people are clueless

I honestly don’t think Musk is gonna outright censor people directly, I feel like he’s just gonna silently manipulate the algorithm for his own purposes

The algorithm is the most powerful part of social media platforms

It dictates what content you see, and what gets reinforced.

Who doesn't have an issue with Zuckerberg? Lol

Also he doesn't own 100% of Facebook. Like 12%.

Elon literally wants to buy all of twitter.

He said he plans to open source the algorithm to make sure nothing sketchy is happening behind the scenes

& its being manipulated rn to maximize engagement to increase platform usage & ad money lol

I don't think Elon has any latent political or financial agenda tbh. He's not Peter Thiel. I think this is genuinely about his ego and wanting to serve his god/savior complex. He desperately wants validation and wants to be seen as the "king of the nerds" or whatever. Everything he does (Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, OpenAI, etc.) is about this and reinforcing his ego primarily. He cares way more about being seen as some savior figure who "fixed the internet" or "changed history" more than he cares about some other explicit agenda.

He does have both IMO, even if it seems hollow

Twitter plays a big part in global culture and discourse/information spread, and all that power being in the hands of someone as impulsive as Elon is scary

how is it that elon, who actually has f*** you money and could post the most offensive stuff all day without ending up in the poorhouse, seems to be one of the few people to understand that messing with the ambiguity in the terms of service has much less of a chilling effect on speech than eradicating anonymity/pseudonymity
