this is only true in an economic vacuum and also if you assume competitive-pricing is the sole economic trend which exists at any given time, which is an oversimplification of how markets work. in reality, macroeconomic phenomena and the intersection of legal/governmental influence on the market contribute a lot to pricing (especially if you consider things such as subsidies or public-private divides). the definition of "competition" in relation to a priced product is also not defined by the sole existence of someone in the same market, especially not if there are public sector alternatives

I don’t think it’s that deep, I think he’s trying to win back the right-wing people so they don’t go to Truth Social

Which, tbh I agree with Musk here, I think they’re better on Twitter than on their own platform like Truth Social where they control the narrative

telecoms and railways being open to competition in western europe in the last decades increased prices mainly because companies needed more budget for marketing and communication they didnt need before

companies that want to appear as premium/high end will increase their prices every time competitors increase theirs to stay the most expensive, best exemple is apple

also older companies that won the public's trust because your parents and grandparents know them can increase their prices because people are willing to pay more for them since it's the safest choice, and being the most expensive is also a way to gain the public's trust
