this is only true in an economic vacuum and also if you assume competitive-pricing is the sole economic trend which exists at any given time, which is an oversimplification of how markets work. in reality, macroeconomic phenomena and the intersection of legal/governmental influence on the market contribute a lot to pricing (especially if you consider things such as subsidies or public-private divides). the definition of "competition" in relation to a priced product is also not defined by the sole existence of someone in the same market, especially not if there are public sector alternatives
