I am not saying git gud btw if you get frustrated by something thats on From Software imo. I just welcome people to look past that and not get too hung up on the „its not fair“ aspect

Yeah like I said the game is still a masterpiece. I can look past some of the bs because of how much they give the players in terms of weapons, stats, abilities, tools, etc. Its just unfortunate to me how unenjoyable some of these encounters turned out to be just because of a 1 or 2 moves that, if adjusted, would have vastly improved the experience.

I best nameless king and orphan of kos and didn't think they were unfair. They never had straight up undodgeable attacks. Those were fun and are deservingly praised. Fromsoft dropped the ball on the bosses here imo

Yeah im just saying people also said that back then. Mind you especially Orphan of Kos came out when people were used to ds2 and ds1 bosses. The games evolve and you get more items and options that you can use to beat the bosses and they obviously adjusted the balancing to that

  • this is my first souls game and i'm happy with the progress i've made with fighting bosses. when I started it was a disaster lol but problem solving around a boss' moveset is a very fun aspect of the game for me

what are ur thoughts on damage scaling in elden ring

what i keep reading is late game u get one-shot by so much s***, and u have to dump a lot more into vigor than in previous games

Malenia you could dodge her flurry only if you were far enough away to run from her first set. If she started that s*** up and you were mid attack you can say goodbye to 90% of your health since the first part is impossible to roll through.

Maliketh was impossible to roll away from his aoe. Only way I could kill him was by getting him stuck behind a pillar. So that he wouldn't reach me.

Radagon can combo his teleport in a way that you either get roll catched after he reappears, or you eat the teleport damage. Either way, you take damage. Yeah it doesn't happen all the time but it is bullshit when you get bad rng and he does that to you.

The game is no longer "hard but fair" if you don't get a fair chance to avoid damage on these fights unless you have full knowledge on their ai and have to bait and cheese them in certain ways.

Malenias flurry attack can be baited so you don't run into those situations.

Maliketh I don't recall what attack was "impossible" to roll away from. But considering that I have just watched multiple POVs from the fight without the use of any pillars it sounds like you exclusively just had trouble with this fight and declared the fight as unfair instead of maybe thinking that you were doing something wrong.

    Same thing with Radagon.

I would actually like to see footage of these "impossible" to dodge attacks because I have no idea what you are talking about.

I cant judge yet. My first playthrough I didnt really get the feeling but I always ran low vigor so I was kind of expecting it. Doing a ng again right now and I will see I guess. So far its been a cakewalk tho bumping vigor does all the difference

Malikeths ability where he slams his blade and there's a dome of slices for like a second. Maybe there is a way to dodge it but after an hour of tries I couldn't find any way to dodge it myself, let alone figure out which slam attack he was gonna do since he's just flailing around the arena at the speed of light.

I'm not gonna have footage but there were several times fighting radagon where he teleports onto you (which does damage, so you have to roll) and then immediately follows it with either a swing or the super fast spear spray. These have rollcaught me many times and its incredible frustrating because there was literally nothing I could do about it.

I give these bosses a fair shot and have never looked up a guide or used a summon (besides looking up how to dodge Malenia's flurry after 2 hours). Some of these bosses are just not as fair as other games.

Listen bro I'm glad you don't find anything wrong with the game but there's no way you can play any other fromsoft game and not think that some of the moves these guys have aren't bs.

Just beat the game Got the Ranni ending by accident because I hit her summon sign thinking it was a message :koolaid:

Some of the last bosses were kinda bullshit in their move set but thematically really cool. This is the first FS game where I really think they dropped the ball on the boss movesets because a lot of them are just plain unfair

it feels like i wrote this

I actually have a lot of issues with the game, one of them is how some boss encounters are designed but again I didn't think the actual moves were unfair. Whenever I died I always knew it was my fault. Only move I thought was BS was the one from the last boss where the stars are chasing you and the boss can also attack you sometimes whilst thats happening. That one just felt like RNG to me. I actually agree with you that some of the bosses from previous games were more enjoyable but thats for other issues I had with the game rather than movesets being unfair

What issues did you have with the bosses then

My biggest issue with fromsoft bosses used to just be the run back after you died but they fixed that here.

p much the same sentiments here. don't think i found any moves bs, besides maybe malenia's at first. found some attacks more annoying than bs, if anything.

I think my main issue is the balancing with the inclusion of summons in this game. I actually like them but I think that some fights clearly weren't designed with them in mind and some of them were.

What I mean is that because these spirit ashes exist, they have to make the bosses do absurd kind of damage to balance it out and inflate their health pool a little more. Okay fine. Problem is that some boss encounters - good example being Malenia, actually get trivialised so hard using a summon that you have to wonder if summons were meant to be disabled for this fight. If you don't want to use the summons because the Spirit Ashes trivialises it too much you have to fight a boss that does damage balanced around you having access to these summons. It's a really weird balance issues that I have no ideas for them to tackle tbh. This is their first attempt at this Spirit Ashes thing so i'm hoping they can get boss balancing with Spirit Ashes right if they do a Elden Ring 2.

Other small issues I have is just the amount of duo boss fights in the game. If your spirit summon doesn't last long enough you are left to deal with 2 bosses that can attack you one after another to the point where you can't dodge; a lot of these to me actually felt unfair (fuck you gargoyles).

EDIT: I understand that you can do some targeting thing where the 2nd boss will act less aggressive towards you if you never target them when entering the arena but idk why this is even a thing

Also a lot of reused bosses in this game, this kind of ties into the duo boss fight because they will just introduce the same boss but have 2 of them. This is an observation rather than a complaint though because its kind of unreasonable to expect 80 unique bosses from a game this big.

This too actually, this game had a lot of fights that were just "annoying" specifically the last boss

Na all those attacks can be dodged/avoided, you just haven’t figured out how to do it

  • Apr 2, 2022

My only problem with Maliketh is that he didn't get another health bar for his second phase. That part is a lot more fun than the first but he has like no health.

Yeah I can see this. Personally I didn't have too much of an issue with boss damage or health except for radagon and Elden beast being paired together, but i do see a lot of people complaining about that

Yeah me neither actually, I was running an Ice build and those are actually pretty busted so I was kinda dismissive of other peoples complaint about boss tuning till I started watching other people play the game and seen how little damage they are doing to the boss compared to me

you can dodge it fam, its not that bad

Meh 1 shot flurry move + keeps healing + scarlet rot

Not saying it can’t be done, i just suck at this fight personally. But she is brutal
