I do agree that the whole thing feels a bit anticlimactic, especially with the whole YouTube hunt and all, but also isnt it really on us for building this up as the best thing ever? they definitely dont look at it same way we do, being friends for a decade and prob doing music just while kicking it. they know they have something special but at the same time they dont really 'mystify' or make it self-important like that, which I respect. its just 11 tracks out of probably hundreds for them at the end of the day

Good points, there is definitely a major disconnect between Earl and his fans as far as this “mystification” of his work

His comments in the Time Magazine Hip Hop 50 were deep. He said a lot of people just get stuck on his “vibe” or vocal tone but really that’s just some s*** he can’t help, what he really wants listeners to take away is his rap skill. But from my perspective, a lot of people don’t really focus on the craft of a work like this, I don’t think people really get Al and Earl’s approach.

People probably didn’t understand the obvious meaning of Some Rap Songs, is that’s all this s*** is to him. Just some raps and beats

    NFT release

It’s streaming for free, when you say NFT release it makes it sound like something else

i like earl over his dirty, messy, grimy (i mean that with love) beats but hearing him over this luscious production is such a great change of pace. alchemist never fails to deliver on the production front

earl's raps just as poignant and great to listen to as ever, earl's ability to make short albums feel so full and complete amazes me

both folks understood the assignment and delivered a wonderful album, very grateful for this - gonna be spinning this for years to come i think

Earl really taking after Mach now hes dropping albums in the most ed way possible

If he got 800k from the gala people then fair enough

But I actually think the Mach model would’ve been better if he wants to bypass the unfair exploitive nature of streaming rev splits

Just put the album behind a paid download thing and keep all the money before putting it on streaming eventually. Or have it physical only for a period like Roc Marciano or Navy Blue do and then you get paid directly for that

no prob, my thinking is they know what theyre doing and I dont have a horse in the race to really lean one way or another on their decisions. long as I got the album on the release day im gucci

as streaming becomes more commonplace in modern society this will probably become the norm with more of the smaller artists as we all try to find a way to make some actual money off the music as the revenues get smaller and smaller.

Slippery slope if the music gets compromised by some of these new private platforms controlling what can and can't be put on their sites and this s*** ultimately turns into the art scene (where profit/money matters more than how many people the s*** actually reaches, which what made music special to begin with.)

    idk.

Yeah the sound of the beats and vocals is downright glamorous for an Earl project, it’s his cleanest sounding since parts of IDLS

A thing that has kept me healthy is never being xenophobic about the Brits. I’ve been listening to British rappers the whole time. I think you dust yourself if you don’t. They are really, really, really, really, really good at rapping.

I was like "FINALLY SOMEBODY GETS IT" when he said that s***.

This was the best way to not piss people off lol

If he was transparent and gave a clear outline of release

‘Paid physical only release on my site for a month, album on streaming in September’

I think people would’ve reacted better than Navy’s albums where people literally have no idea if they’re ever getting wider release with 0 explanations or transparency

That wouldn’t make anywhere near 800k lol. A few hundred people would buy it and then most people would download it
