Solange made a comment that white journalists covering R&B music should know who Brandy is. She was asked to join the New York Times podcast to discuss her comments and declined.

Jon and some other white guy went ahead and discussed Solange and the topic and Jon said “I went to Solange’s concert and I noted who her audience was, and if I were her, I’d be careful of making these statements because I’d be careful not to bite the hand that feeds me.”

Solange wrote about how she didn't like that indie blogs didn't have a good grasp on R&B & that they should understand Brandy's music & the history of the genre etc before trying to review R&B

He said she shouldn't disrespect indie critics because they 'made her' & that she 'shouldn't bite the hand that feeds her', there would be no interest in Solange with them giving her praise & her association to Grizzly Bear

I feel like good interviewers set a comfortable tone for open dialogue that feels natural especially these long form video interviews, I haven't gotten that vibe from any of the ones I've watched. YNS for example is a million times better at this with better questions and he hasn't been writing for nyt for decades
