Chani confronts him after and convinces him by telling him he won’t lose her, as that was the only thing holding him back. Key point she said as long as he doesn’t change as a person she won’t, but evident after Paul takes it he changes completely. He knew it was an inevitability for him to travel but knowing Chani was on his side made him go through with it.
I thought it was the vision of what him as leader could potentially lead to (the millions of starving people) that was holding him back. And at that point he’d had already seen that it was his mom who was leading him in that vision.
The reason for reluctance being Chani makes some sense but he betrays her right after and drinks the water
I agree. Dude was complaining because the guys weren’t d***ged up. He was hyped up to be a psycho but he wasn’t all that bad. he wasn’t too dissimilar to his brother.
Yeah that was one of my few gripes. It didn’t affect my enjoyment too much but Butler was hyped to be this animal that they had locked away but after his 20 minute backstory segment he was pretty tame
They killed his uncle basically tearing down their kingdom and he just watched them then offers himself to fight in the place of the guy who had his uncle killed
It’s more disappointing to me cause o bought into him as a badass when he was first introduced and was excited to see the havoc he was gonna unleash
All together I loved this movie though. It made me like the first one more too (not that I disliked it but can understand why some would feel it’s slow) after this one it’s like damn their lives are never gonna be like how it was in the first movie when Paul was just watching YouTube essays and training with the best fighters in his castle
An underrated factor in all of this is that Shigar’s extreme beliefs was a big cause of the downfall that might lead to the millions of starving people
He was the one who made Jessica drink the water of life otherwise he’s kill her which led to her influencing Paul to eventually drink it
Idk how I’m supposed to sleep after seeing this

I mean they kind of beat you over the head that feyd don't care about dead relatives like that with him threating rabban and telling paul he wouldn't be the first cousin he murked. In the books I even think he tries to get the baron assassinated at one point cause he sick of his ass.
The emperor not stripping baron of his titles or w/e wouldn't of changed much for his fate either. Mans was a dead man walking once Arrakken got attacked. Feyd fighting for the emperor and potentially winning that duel and killing Paul sets him up tremendously within the imperium I'd suspect too

The way I interpreted it his mom was influencing his vision and spoke through Jamis to convince Paul that being able to “see” would prevent the death of millions and losing chani. But still he remained hesitant because he knew his choice would go against what Chani wanted for him, which was to not be the Fremens prophet. His mind was already set to go I believe, just Chanis reassurance helped give that extra push to head South

That’s the trick.. you watch it again

Jessica saying the baby is talking to her, and then we learn it was actually talking was very funny
Why can’t zendaya just stand ten toes with her man lol
Too many theatrics from her character just trust bro and ride
These mfers were scary as s*** man wtf is going on on Giedi Prime
Don’t forget this thing
the changes made with chani are pretty major
messiah is gonna have to be way different if they make it but anyways just watched this for the second time so good legit one of the best movies i seen in years
I will love you forever
One part I was confused about was when they were all headed south but Paul was adamant on staying by himself then he touches the ripples of the sand and gets a vision and not only does he go south he agrees to drink the water of life
I couldn’t figure out what caused the huge 180. I know he had the vision and heard a voice talking to him but that’s been happening all movie. What did I miss?
i thought it was cause he sees a vision of chani dead and realize he's f***ed either way they need the south or they will die

Greig Fraser is an amazing cinematographer
Oh s***
I’m watching it rn too
Pops been wanting me to watch it for the longest but I held out cause I didn’t wanna spoil anything in part 2
Watching the extended version too at 3 hrs
Oh word, there’s an extended version?
I got about a third of the way through the book, but I think the Lynch version captures the feeling better. The Villeneuve version is like a sleek, prestige epic but Lynch is just meat and potatoes sci-fi camp with some extra weirdness on the side. But the Lynch one speed runs everything to an absurd degree so nothing feels like it has any weight.

It’s a fanedit but sticks close to the og film, saw it recommended everywhere online as best way to view it. Honestly watching it only reinforces how strongly I feel about the newer films. I have no doubt Lynch version sticks closer to the source material but damn does it just sink like a rock halfway through. I much rather prefer a slower paced Part 1 then it all be bunched into one film. and even more wild is most of the events of the second film are condensed to under an hour
For me it’s fun when it’s campy but for a film as a whole it leaves so much to be desired. A story as epic as Dune deserves so much more, and sucks cause I think Lynch really nailed it during the first half

I agree, second half tanks if unfortunately
Can someone explain to me how Paul manages to defeat the great houses? (I assume that's what happens in the novel). Is it simply because of atomic power? Because from a strategic and numerical point of view, Arrakis seems to be at a disadvantage.

So he’s not trolling? He’s actually different? I thought this was one of those “this is the only way to win I have to be re tarded for a little bit to get to the desired outcome”
Think doctor strange in infinity war

I didn’t get the impression they disliked each other in the movie. I got that he didn’t care about family but he was being given land to rule from the Baron. With him dead it left his status in limbo which might be why he needed to leverage himself to fight for the emperor (although I think he wanted to fight Paul regardless of who it was)
