What would more "mature" music even sound like to you? That just sounds like it would be boring. I don't get what these people mean when they say they want mature music from Drake. You guys wanna hear Drake talk about how he was changing diapers and taking his kid to the park to play ball?

Hopefully this 2 year hiatus gives him something to rap about.

I get where people are coming from about the growth criticism but I’ve said it in this thread before.. part of me feels like if he made his version of a 4:44 we’d all look like Akademiks during the CLB stream on first listen.

    Mature doesn’t = boring.

Away From Home is a very mature, reflective song and it’s not boring at all.

Y’all live in extremes so much, I’m not saying the opposite of this content is nothing but father talk, but I would like to hear him talk about these topics from a different perspective. Songs like Tried Our Best, Away From Home, and I’m the Problem (even though it was cut) are all examples of what a mature Drake project would sound like, and none of those songs are boring

Oh, if those are the songs considered mature then I’m in for a classic.

I see what your saying. In that case it just sounds like you want more focused, introspective songs. I don't think mature is the right word for it tho. And what's wrong with a healthy balance. He can have songs like the ones you mentioned, but also have songs that he made having fun. Like the trap bangers and club songs

Away From You is a f***ing fantastic song. But I promise you that most of yall would find a whole album filled with those type of songs boring asf. S*** would get repetitive quick

There’s definitely a balance to be had, but even with guys like Cole and Kendrick, their ā€œfunā€ songs nowadays don’t see them reverting to immature lyricism or trying to appease younger audiences.

It feels like on Drake’s ā€œbangerā€ songs nowadays he’s trying way too hard to appeal to Gen Z (and it’s weird having this criticism because I myself am a part of a Gen Z)

This. The fans who are upset are the fans who feel like their favorite artist is not growing with his fanbase. People who were 16-23 when Drake came on the scene are now in their mid to late 30s. I don’t get why some people are acting like it’s preposterous for fans of that age range to want to hear some more mature content from a guy who’s going on two decades in the game

Actually i think is exact opposite. His music was more mature in the past. Projects like Nwts, iyrtitl and Views is just proof of that. No need to let guys like Lil Yachty (no offense )to help with the album. While making TC weeknd and 40 were around, while making NWTS 40, bo1da, partynextdoor and Majid Were around on IYRTITL he was pushing himself to prove everybody he is THE rapper, lyricist etc. Now he just dropped another playlist with few higher quality tracks and rest of it sounds like it was made with not much effort put into it. But yea thats just another opinion on this subject.

They’ll come around. It really is fire. I think if he woulda labeled this a mixtape or a playlist again it would’ve gotten more immediate praise.

Yeah I agree that his older music was more mature as well, which is another reason why there’s a disconnect with his older fans, because to them it feels like he’s aging in reverse instead of growing with his fans

Noticed Drake didn’t do the IG story thing this time where he reposts every dude in the industry who listened

Scary Hours 3 was the best approach for tracks like this i.e. 4:44

Drop 4-5 songs with 6 minutes full bars and s*** and keep that segment of the audience satisfied.

Dropping a 15 track album with full rap s*** will get boring (not for us drake fans) but the dumbasses that are complaining about this album today.

I can definitely agree with that. But that's just Drake's attempts at staying relevant. He always tries to hop on to what the relevant thing is. If he hadn't been this way, most of Gen Z would have declared him 'washed' long ago. It's also why Cole or Kendrick will never be bigger than Drake

ā€œgrowing with his fansā€ lmaoo an artist does not have to grow with s***, y’all treat these musicians like commodities and androids
