Imo Chicago freestyle has been the closest we’ve gotten to his nwts themes
Truck to the plane to the truck
I think he’s setting himself up for a partial failure here. Because when people say they miss the old drake they don’t even know what they are actually missing lol.
My point proven. I know it’s HHT so it’s not that deep but still lol.

That’s such a s*** take. How do you measure the amount someone is trying?

I know right lol. That’s what I’m saying. No one knows what they really mean when they say they miss the old drake. Hell, I saw someone say that on a YouTube comment the other day, then mfs started talking about Gods Plan being old drake 😂

“I miss the old drake”
Tonight.
This is becoming a drag. We need a real update. Not just “soon, real quick, mixing it in the back” he knows when it’s coming out, just tell us.

OHHHHH S*** have fun broski
I disagree. His past music is just overly-glorified because it was his introduction and so everything he did back then was fresh and new. After a while, exploring the same themes doesn't seem as magical anymore.
I don't think it's the themes or songwriting that makes people miss the "old Drake" music. It's the mixing, especially the vocal mixing.
Take Care through to Views all have extremly good vocal mixing and recording that just makes Drake sound amazing and loud and present. They started changing something during the process of more life and then commited to it on Scorpion.
The only time since then they have gone back to it was around 2019/2020 around Dark lane and early CLB. Tracks like Omerta/Gold Roses/No Guidance/Life is Good/Chicago Freestyle/Deep Pockets/Landed have that "old drake" vocal mixing that just makes him sound present and charismatic and have very little autotune.
All that Lil Baby/Gunna/Yachty influence made him change up the vocal recording/mixing approach and that's what puts people off the music the most in my opinion. It's especially obvious when demos and early versions leak and just have more typical sounding Drake vocals. HNVM suffered a lot from too much autotune, CLB also in parts. Compare any 2021/2022 Drake tracks to NWTS or Views tracks and listen to how much better he sounded on those. The songwriting, rapping, singing and delivery all got better. The mixing and in some ways the production got worse and doesn't give people that same atmosphere, charisma and nostalgia.
I'm hoping the mixing and the production is what he means when he wants to give people that "old Drake" rather than the songwriting/delivery/themes.
