GoshDrake's lawyer has to prove that the success of NLU damaged Drake and that UMG pushed the song so much to belittle Drake and lower his worth for his next contract negotiations
They are hoping to find some kind of marketing deal with Kendrick and UMG to prove he got special treatment for the marketing and push of NLU
But most people think Drakes lawyers are just gonna push until there's an undisclosed settlement and this whole thing ends as anticlimactic as THP6
Yeah I think a lot of people are missing this. They're just focusing on the defamation.
The case isn't that kendrick defamed drake, its that UMG pushed a defamatory song in a way they usually wouldn't. Whether or not thats true we will have to wait and see. But to start they have to at least prove that NLU had some negative impact on Drake so thats why we're mostly seeing stuff about defamation so far.
i am not a lawyer but thats my understanding so far.

I remember besides the random YouTube comments, twitter comments, akademiks guests, joe budden, Etc. didn't he also say he had a “whistleblower” was that still in his case or did he drop that from the suit? I think it was weird how Mal was saying “ Lucien is on chats calling the plays in this take down of Drake” and then when pressed on it he acted like he was speculating lol clearly he’s just regurgitating what Drake is saying to him. Wonder who would have told him that?
Also couldn’t UMG have tried to fight what could be in discovery? The fact that they just agreed eventually..does that not show a little confidence that they aren’t worried about what drakes team may find?
iirc there were some claims from Drake's side that UMG started getting rid of or being less engaged with people who worked with Drake or his brand within UMG.

my theory while we're here:
i think it'll come out that umg had some type of favorable deal for kendrick (multiple reactors came out saying "kendrick" was allowing them to react without copyright), but i bet umg will also say "hey here are all the times we did the same s*** for drake"
it'll technically be a win (or settlement) for drake but won't be anything meaningful.
stans will go "drakes the goat and defending small artists" or "drake sued for doing the same thing he does how stupid" and everyone else will go "okay so nothing happened can we stop talking about the beef finally"

People also seem to forget Drake had Spotify and Iheartmedia tied into this till they showed him they didn’t do anything and he dropped them from the case

If anything, Spotify should sue Drake because there’s an army of people calling it Botify and s***ting on the platform because of the claims Drake made in this lawsuit

People couldve easily still trashed the songs, copyright or not
The only way it could foul play is if only the favorable reactions were the videos not copyrighted

100%. but technically they were given access that wasn't given to the drake releases, if umg did that technically drake would be right in saying that umg gave preferential treatment to kendrick

We would have to know if Drakes team requested the same thing and were denied first to say it was preferential
Could just be a great play by Kendricks team since he's technically only on a distributing deal

But we also have streamers that say they got pushups reactions monetized…

aha i was actually just about to post this. definitely umg could just respond and say "yeah heres proof kendrick reached out to us to initiate the convo you could've done the same thing" and then its a moot point
really we wont know until its over or ever if it gets settled. but i think the "copyright for reactions" is the only real example we have from a credible source of some type of preferential treatment

I said this earlier itt but I think UMG still views Drake as an asset and despite pissing them off with this, They still want to make money from him. That’s why they want this whole thing just dismissed
But if Drake and his team keep pushing it and UMG realizes he’s a lost cause, They’ll actually do the thing Drake fans think they tried to do with this beef
That “careful what you wish for” was telling. I don’t wanna go all conspiracy theorist but it seems to be pretty well known in the industry that Drake moves sloppy. UMG getting full legal authority to look into everything and bring it to court is scary. The best way to beat defamation is truth

Blue MagicI’m shocked drake agreed to this not being disclosed to the public. What happened to all that s*** his people like Mal were saying, about how this is gonna help the artists against the machine, all about artists getting what they deserve. And now it’s all gonna be private again?? Same as how the iheart suit that got settled privately too. This is ridiculous. Was he just after a payday after all?
His lawyers brought this up as a resolution in March because UMG did not want to give them the information they requested. This protection only includes certain documents.
