imo DS3 and beyond from soft games have some of the tightest feeling 3rd person combat out there
I just see it being pretty hard to compete with.
I did pick up the first game on the spring steam sale tho, I’m gonna put a couple hours into it before Friday so I don’t go in completely blind. I’m more than open to admitting I’m wrong if I end up enjoying the combat.
tbh just go in blind. Way cooler that way
Not a tough hurdle to clear
I have heard ad nauseum for the past 15 years that souls combat is bar none the best in gaming history.
But legitimately this game seems like it has better combat. At the very least, better looking.

It does look a lot more flashy I’ll give it that, especially the magic

What do you think about souls combat? I don't personally see it as one of the strengths of those games

Souls players usually only play Soulslike games so their understanding of combat is skewed and should be disregarded tbh.

One of the weakest aspects of the games to me. Outside of Bloodborne’s trick weapons, I’d scrapped everything about Souls combat mechanics. Even though I’ve only played Bloodborne & Elden Ring

Elden Ring is the most fleshed out combat of that series so
there is Sekiro but that's different ball game. Of the hour or two I played of Dark Arisen I know this game will have better combat for sure

I think it's cool and provides alot of options, but it reminds me of how people view fighting games where you really pay attention to frame rates and what's hitting and when you can dodge.
I think the difficulty and challenge are centered around the vehicle pushing you through the game which is the combat.
I mean the industry has adopted the formula en masse so its clearly doing something and right.
But I wouldn't say it's my favorite. They're really good games but there's definitely things you can tweak
It does look a lot more flashy I’ll give it that, especially the magic
I just think it's cool you can build an archer that actually has good animations and looks good. You can finally make a legolas build that kicks ass.
Every rpg boasts classes that are important and have their own cool thing, but this one actually takes that and delivers from what we've seen.
The mystic spear hand looks sick with their Jedi ass moveset too.
I have no idea what I'll be choosing.
Thinking of going warfarer just to try it all and change from there
When this runs at 16 frames per second with screen tearing and a Vaseline smeared resolution on my steam deck

That's an insane take

It's really not. The insane take is "Souls is bar none the best combat in gaming" when s*** like DMC5, KH3 post-ReMind, Dragon's Dogma, etc. exist lol
Souls combat ain't all that bruh. Severely carried by enemy design on that aspect. I mean you're talking about games (outside of Sekiro which actually has elite combat) where the general pace of combat looks like: attack once or twice, roll, attack once or twice, roll.
Not even the best combat when it comes to FromSoft alone. AC6 blows them out of the water

That's exactly what I was calling insane
$80 for peak that happens to run at 30fps*
PS5 pro gonna fix the framerate anyway

Nah Fromsoft combat is god tier but I mean so is DMC5. They're just so different I can't even compare them like that.

Just can't understand that sentiment. The combat itself in Souls game is simplistic as f***. Carried completely by boss design
Everything is right. The combat in souls games are basic. That’s not bad thing tho. With aspects like stamina management, enemy designs and placement, etc, it works as a sum of its parts. Combos aren’t what they’re going for different philosophies and all that
