First of all the thread is about narcissism, not self-interest. And like arcade said if capitalism is just the consequence of natural self-interest then why is capitalism only a couple of hundred yrs old lol

The dumb argument of "self-interest" and "selfishness" doesn't even make sense because if it's in this (extremely rigid perspective on) human nature to be self-interested, that would mean that it's innately humans' interest to better foster their communities, because humans are nothing without the community.

And if you say that the community doesn't matter anymore, that's literally because capitalism has driven us apart from one another. Especially in America, where the cultural cornerstone is "The American Dream" and the hustle, and if you wash that away, you have NOTHING to relate to your fellow American.

But this kind of discussion is meaningless in life section because you'd rather have people suck off billionaires than reflect and think critically about deeper societal issues.

Human nature is much more malleable than you would think. The diversity of how societies have operated alone would show that. For the longest period of human history we had hunter-gatherer gift economies without private property, Marx and Engels called it "primitive communism".

Regular warfare only began with the neolithic revolution and agriculture about 10.000 to 12.000 years ago. The hunter and gatherer societies predating this period did not participate in much warfare, nor did class society exist. Class society, states, ideology, war, patriarchy and slavery all started once humans developed agriculture and settled down rather than engaged in nomadic lifestyles. This process was about the same everywhere in the world except for in Australia, where hunter & gatherer societies lasted much longer.

None of this proves that capitalism is naturally inherent in people as some idiots ITT claim. If that were the case why is capitalism only 300 years old while humanity is far older?

Also if humans were truly self-interested, why is the vast majority of the wealth in the world owned by such a tiny minority? Why are there billions of poor people? You'd think we'd just f***ing hang all the billionaires and take their s***. Turns out that perhaps economics is more complicated than simple ass kindergarten narratives...

Realistically we don’t know s*** about what humans thought 10000 years ago bro, I’m not gonna hold you . It makes sense ideology could only prosper with humans settling down though.

i agree Capitalism isn’t inherent to human nature …Greed, jealousy manipulation and violence are. Capitalism is a system where that gets rewarded more often than not .

Yeah, and perhaps it is the ruling class that formulates the ruling ideas and inseminates them in the minds of morons like the dude on the first page down to an oversimplification of "self-interest = capitalism = good" so morons like him keep up lining the pockets of the rich like a good slave will do and never doubt their masters and always keep on consuming and staying in the hamster-wheel

    It's not about thinking

It's about the tools that people find, like weapons, which simply didn't exist as much before the neolithic revolution

The oldest town that has ever been found had no different furniture or larger living spaces. If there are no palaces and people all had the same size homes and the same quality vases and tools, how can there be such a thing as class?

There are mummified corpses found where you can say how this person died, you can find a bunch of the neolithic era people murdered with weapons but barely any before

You can look at the cave paintings and see which ideas and thoughts they prioritized.

Later on you have writings anyway. Plenty of s*** you can infer from archaeology.

. I agree with everything you said there and think it’s quite amazing we get to find out about the past. Keep in mind 1) archaeology is heavily gatekept to preserve established notions of history 2) for everything we do know there’s twice as much we don’t know.

So why did capitalism only appear in the late 17th century if it has been the NATURAL ORDER OF THINGS since the dawn of man as you claim, genius?

yea bro I'm sure the fellas who painted pics on caves with animal feces are gonna cook up complex economic ideologies lmao

the cornerstone of capitalism is inequality and there has been inequality since ancient Egypt. why? people acting out of self interest

you are not as smart as you think you are. if you were, you would be able to take advantage of capitalism and prosper

You think you are smarter than Aristotle? Gallileo? Avicenna? You think humans lived in caves 300 years ago and were all mouthbreathing imbeciles like you currently are? You think Ancient Egypt had capitalism? Do you even know what capitalism means? Do you think capitalism appeared because a person "thought up a complex economic ideology"? Do you suffer from mental retärdation? Do you have a learning disability, did you finish school? Do you need help? Do your parents know what a smoothbrain you are? Have you ever read a book in your life? No, picturebooks don't count.

its not about smarts, i know plenty of people who could be considered capitalist's who are complete idiots. and those people are where they are where they are because of nepotism as well as ruthless sociopathic behavior.
