something is less fun or revolutionary than it once was because it has been refined or does / doesn't work anymore

working it does work, if it doesn't work then a game is not playable

if someone's bothered because pressing right and up arrow doesn't go in diagonal, but only straight up or right, then it's their issue with the game and should adapt (if that's what you mean for dated mechanics)

Dead Rising 1 is good example

Sounds pretentious but sometimes you have to adjust to the "flow" of something like an old janky 3D platformer and it can still be good fun. Maybe you had to grow up with them tho

I'm not a gamer anymore, I just rarely engage in new games or very old games emulated on my steamdeck, the last one I got addicted to was GZDoom with the custom wads
