her tiny desk has 12m views (outpacing sabrina carpenter and olivia rodrigo)
grammys has 8m between her account and the grammys
late show has 4.5m
genius open mic has 9m
flog gnaw has no official uploads but one of them has 0.8m views
she's a great performer and is going viral for it
Right just pointing out how obvs none of this fell into place until after she got a Grammy nomination and had a campaign set up.
The Grammy nomination in itself being questionable cause when tf has a female rapper ever got nominated and been able to PERFORM at the show for a mixtape that wasn’t selling anything
What mixtapes randomly START having their biggest promotion months after being released lmao
randomly?

i thought we loved the opportunity for rappers to not have to sell out! oh well!
Nothing wrong w labels promoting their artists, but when they start winning awards they clearly don't deserve over artists that do, they're gonna get hate.

who deserved raoty over her among the noms
I mean she was supposed to be the original Doechii (until she self sabotaged her entire career) so I can highkey get why she specifically would be salty at her rise
Azealia actually made amazing music though
One minute it’s them crying over the death of mono culture and then the next it’s them complaining about the industry tryna bring it back as best they can
I love it
who deserved raoty over her among the noms
I don't think a mixtape filled with 1-2 minute half ideas was deserving of raoty, so I'd go with literally any other nominee.

Real.
But imagine Azealia won a Rap GRAMMY, performed at the Grammys, and was named Woman of the Year just off 1991 EP cause she had one lil viral hit with 212
This rise really is just so obviously off industry coattails but good for her. No other female rapper could’ve got this type of recognition with proving relatively so little thus far

people tend to get more popular after having multiple viral moments on national television to an audience that barely knows her

y'all see her display an incredible pen and voice across this insane range of song styles in a cohesive manner and still write it off as "half-baked"
you can literally see how the album transitions style-by-style, song-by-song for 19 songs without skipping a beat. her "half ideas" are ridiculously introspective.
None of that happened til after the Grammys campaign though. Denial Is a River went viral and the album recharted AFTER the campaign of performances and celebrity endorsements she got following her Grammy nomination.
The mixtape charted 1 week at first, fell off, had no songs get traction.
Then she magically scored a Grammy nom and had a bunch of things lined up to campaign a win. She even got a Grammys performance which is crazy cause no female rapper has ever got that before even dropping a debut album
The album has been buzzing since it dropped. She was getting love well before the Grammys. I’ve been following her since the Covid days.

Drop a bar from it

i'm sure lauryn hill brought her out to perform because someone at capitol records told her too
real recognize real, she's been around for four years
Damn, this site really just full of misogynistic a******s.
Not liking and/or criticizing doechii ≠ misogyny
Drop a bar from it
if i dropped a bar you'd do some duckhah posting bro im not falling for this trap
First week sales aren’t everything. The album has been doing well on a weekly basis. It will go platinum.
Section.80 did 5k first week and Kendrick blew up overnight off that tape.
section.80 is amazing and i love that tape dearly but they weren’t nominating it at the grammys
Not liking and/or criticizing doechii ≠ misogyny
cause 90% of yalls arguments basically amount to "how is she popular, when i dont like her"
Blue Lips to not even get a nomination was atrocious. Doechii album deserved its nom, but I really hope TDE didn't choose to hold that back in order to give ABNH more focus. Again, I'll understand that it's the label marketing talent they believe can be a superstar. But it's pretty lame that a great album that deserved more praise went under the radar for it to happen.

The Grammy nomination was not questionable stop it

100% agree. Schoolboy was sorely looked over
