Exec as in executive producer - I didn't mean a business exec, I'm just talking music wise about him my b

Dre also has many cases of putting together things together himself and also through others which have been vouched, his stealing comes from his name being slapped onto lesser known at the time producers like a young Scott storch

Diddy has even been critique that he isn't even that musically inclined outside of being a fan - he is way better at the theatrics and branding

Jodeci specifically Diddy didn't do much of anything for them musically, again it was mostly branding and he's one of the reasons they were "dressed as rappers" but jodeci was AL B Sure discovery and concept that he then had Diddy do back up guidance - it's also a similar thing with Usher and 112, although with 112 iirc he found them himself - which I would say Diddy is good at noticing talent too and what he can make work within his own thing

He isn't really involved musically outside of "suggestions" here n there and he's been critique for it for decades by artists and those around them, outside of all the foul stuff - and it's one of the reasons Suge was calling him a basically useless attention w****, or why DMX passed on signing to Diddy etc.

He is way closer to a Khaled or a Birdman than a Dre or Dupri - his major strengths being talent finding and branding

Edit: and imo shouldn't be a serious name talked about when talking about producers, executives or more hands on

Oh okay, I still think he fits squarely as an exec producer rather than just an A&R in the 90s tbh

I get what you’re saying but I think Diddy is Diddy i get why you wouldnt say hes Dre or Dupri but he also isnt Birdman or Khaled hes just his own thing and I think he deserves credit for his contributions to the music and this is coming from someone who hates him as a person

Do we believe the conspiracy theory that Diddy stole the idea to sample 'Between the Sheets' and 'Juicy Fruit' from Andre Nickatina's debut in 1993?

    Or just a coincidence?

    mr get dough

How is he a mix of an A&R and an exec when an exec is just the boss of an A&R?

If he stole then yeah he shouldnt get the credit but do you genuinely think he stole every single thing he did for biggie, mary, jodeci?

dr dre also got accused of stealing and maybe he did, but i dont think that means everything he did is invalid now

ive been around too many musicians to naively take them at their words. they're always the real genius, or d*** riding someone else if they can't fake it. and diddy is an easy guy to write off.

thing is. for "composers" whether like Dre, Diddy, or certain eras of Kanye. regardlesss of how much they concerned themselves with the particulars, none of the people they "took credit from" ever made music half as good on their own.

Both these songs were already big before hip hop ever sampled them so imo yeah it’s a coincidence. Both samples are really layups especially back then

From what I've heard he took a lot of other niggas ideas and concepts and just put his budget and brand to it, sometimes even presenting it as his own or acting like he did more than he actually did that then got exposed later

He was good for connections tho

But yeah he's like a mix of an AnR n a executive - I don't think he was all that tho either way outside of the money/brand n connects

He is def at least way less than like a Dr Dre or Jermaine Dupri and few others

He started off as an A&R too so that’s really where his roots lie

how old are you? you sound like a child.

"one of the reasons diddy sucks is that someone who hates his guts (Suge) said he does"

"A bunch of grown men claim they were more responsible for their own success than their sleazeball boss"

most people, especially those who are famous tend to be self promoting. it's a mentally healthy habit, but you have to use critical thinking to parse through what people say.

Diddy def helped Jodeci in branding and marketing but also with their music identity too. He was the one that had them and MJB blending hip hop wit r&b the way that they did. Those “hardcore” hip hop beats. And that was packaged with helping their image.

But outside of sitting in on sessions an “conducting” yeah he def wasn’t touching the boards lol I wonder if there is any footage of him actually doing anything in the studio other than pressing play

  • Dec 12, 2025

Yes he was largely not a good producer. Though he did make a few special ones that just worked (for biggie, jay) he is the definition of overinflated. An evil genius who slithered his way to the top
