oh don't get me wrong I have no issue with someone genuinely preferring the Lynch version (which I haven't even seen), that's their right at the end of the day, this isn't even about Dune itself, but a wider issue I have with film discourse these days
what does piss me off is this attitude a lot of people seem to have these days towards big blockbusters where they'll immediately throw around labels like "self-serious" and "joyless" if it doesn't have a bunch of obnoxious Joss Whedon type "so that happened" quips every 5 minutes, it's already bad enough that 99% of big budget movies out there are trying to be MCU clones
people can have their criticisms of a movie, that's more than fair, but we don't need to put down big budget movies for the reason of at least attempting to take themselves seriously because they're getting further and fewer in between these days
He did make comments on the Villeneuve supposed over reliance on budget, cast and special fx and what not but at the end he did give credit where it was due, I think. But the article struck me as what our generation music fan experience when discussing music with oldheads. We like things for different reason but we generally know when a work or art is good, even if we nitpick certain things. But ima fan and he’s an actually journalist so he needs to control his bias a bit more.
like I remember last year when Matt Reeves said The Batman is going to explore Bruce Wayne's trauma a bunch of people were going "uuugh, why can't we get a FUN Batman movie for once??"
and this is in regards to a movie about a character whose defining moment is seeing his parents murdered right before his own eyes, like come on lmao
There’s directors that create films for the casuals movie-goer and then there’s directors that create films for us filmheads, general population needs to understand who is creating what. Reminds me of that alien convant debacle and how Ridley Scott let fans dictate how he wrote the script.
Just watched this again at home on my 65” TV with surround sound via HBO Max.
Its still a great movie, but it doesn’t touch the immersion the IMAX experience provided.
I will be watching for the 3rd time at the cinema
just arrived home from watching this on IMAX…
bro the IMAX in my city is f***ing trash
The screen is too close to the seats, me and my friends were on the 33th row and s*** was still very uncomfortable to watch
Movie was good tho, direction, cinematography, score and overall production were great. Story was good too but I think the movie could use more story background and lore explained.
I give this an 8/10 but I want to watch it again in a more comfortable space.
Crazy how Denis still hasn’t missed
Bruh bought a whole other ticket because my girl thought she was off work but ended up being called in. Couldn’t even see it alone like I planned because it was sold out

I kinda want to watch this on my iPhone right now in the bed... Will that ruin it? Or the big screen TV? I don't have time to go to IMAX..
just got back from my second viewing
this film is so good i got out and wanted to see it a 3rd time
feel like i understood a lot more my second time around
Ik there’s a lot of hype for this movie and I understand why but is this worth the watch? I’m only asking because I’ve been very busy lately and Ik if I put it on my list I probably won’t watch it for a while. Please reply with objective and fair answers instead of just a blind “yes”

Maybe it's because I'm new to it, but I don't think I really understand the hype around this series. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the movie. 8/10

Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Saw it at home, feel like seeing it in theaters too
I'll take that as a yeah lmao
I mean I watched on HBO Max first on a 42 inch TV so I can't judge anyone but I'd say you're better off seeing it on as big of a screen as you can...won't ruin it to watch on your phone but also not the best way
