Update: that was the coolest f***ing movie experience I’ve ever had

Can’t say I’d see every movie like this, but everyone needs to experience it at least one.

Your entire vision is taken up by the movie and your head is moving around following things

    Wow just wow.

    Amazing movie as well.

What the f*** i am so jealous. Are there any of these in Texas?

"Hear me out on this: David Lynch’s “Dune” is a lot of fun — and, compared to the self-serious posturing of Denis Villeneuve’s new version, it’s a ridiculous blast. "

genuinely boils my blood when people say s*** like this

god forbid a big budget movie movie take itself seriously for once these days

Dune isn't a story that's supposed to be "fun!"

Aight so the gist is Villeneuve believes Lynch version wasnt so much interested in sticking to the source material of Herbert’s Dune or whatever. If he’s implying Lynch’s version is a anything othr than a great film then he’s mistaken. I hate making comparisons but he started it so I’ll give my input. I basically agree with the writer in that both films aim to do different things but I cannot say one film is better than the other. Most don’t consider 1984 Dune a classic but I damn sure do!

I wanna say more but I don’t think it’s that deep.

i had to explain dune to my dumbasss brother in a way he'd watch it so i came up with "its kinda like game of thrones in the desert with spaceships"

    it worked

The biggest difference between the two films is budget end of discussion. The second biggest difference are the directors. With that said how can anyone compare the two? But if someone disparages one or the other I don’t mind defending either film.

oh don't get me wrong I have no issue with someone genuinely preferring the Lynch version (which I haven't even seen), that's their right at the end of the day, this isn't even about Dune itself, but a wider issue I have with film discourse these days

what does piss me off is this attitude a lot of people seem to have these days towards big blockbusters where they'll immediately throw around labels like "self-serious" and "joyless" if it doesn't have a bunch of obnoxious Joss Whedon type "so that happened" quips every 5 minutes, it's already bad enough that 99% of big budget movies out there are trying to be MCU clones

people can have their criticisms of a movie, that's more than fair, but we don't need to put down big budget movies for the reason of at least attempting to take themselves seriously because they're getting further and fewer in between these days

like I remember last year when Matt Reeves said The Batman is going to explore Bruce Wayne's trauma a bunch of people were going "uuugh, why can't we get a FUN Batman movie for once??"

and this is in regards to a movie about a character whose defining moment is seeing his parents murdered right before his own eyes, like come on lmao
