deans guitars and drums shine on this, love how crisp everything sounds.

Even past the somewhat ironic exterior it’s clear dean has a huge appreciation for making straightforwardly beautiful music

There has never been anything ironic about Dean’s interest in guitar/rock music. It’s always been genuine. That ironic exterior always came as a result of him being self-aware that he is a black man in a predominantly white space and playing with that to those he knows will already judge and perceive him a certain way based on how he looks.

Fully agree, that’s apparent just from ‘black metal’ as a title and the songs on the freestyles ep a few years back.

Late to this but this album is great. A lot of elias vocals on iceage stuff took time to grow on me, but his singing on this and lucre hits just right
