Wayne and Ye werent bigger than Drake? I was outside 2011 Drake Was big but it didn’t catapult Kendrick into the spotlight. Most niggas who weren’t following underground rappers at that point didn’t even know his name

this is correct. i mean s*** he was still touring midsized amphitheaters in 2014 with the drake vs wayne tour. feel like this time was kinda a transitionary phase though from old to new .

Yeah but he could have flopped then and there

When my album drop, b****es'll buy it for the picture
And niggas'll buy it too and claim they got it for they sister

That’s a line from BIEH lol

Drake in 2009 was very different from Drake in 2011

Drake wasn’t even thought of the biggest rapper of THAT time when that album came out let alone of all time. His rebrand got ya rewriting history.

You right,Jay,Wayne & Ye were still the megastars and it was a different era, when rappers were trying to crossover with pop, unlike now, where the goal is to pop on social media,by any means necessary.

Yeah you could argue that PND didn’t capture the opportunity given to him like Kendrick did

Dude from the beginning I’ve said that it wasn’t the only reason Kendrick was successful

I think you’re severely overrating it though.

A Drake feature does not just automatically equate to your debut studio album being the longest charting hip-hop album of all time

If you wanna say it helped, sure, but it was like less than 5% of a factor in Kendrick’s path to who he became

Read it again and don't latch on to certain words

I never denied it helped expose Kendrick to Drake fans that weren’t following the underground/blog scene at the time. But to say it put him on is a stretch. When GKMC dropped no one thought about that verse.
