Something that crossed my mind with regards to his unreleased catalogue

Given that he primarily seemed to work by recording to tape in studios, I can imagine he wouldn't really have loads of stuff 'in the vault' for his post Voodoo - modern day era
Although there's definitely mountains of stuff from the post Brown Sugar to Voodoo era e.g. the loads of cover albums they apparently/allegedly recorded in those sessions

But for the post Voodoo era
whereas in another world there could be a version of his 'vault' featuring loads of home recordings with a Tape VST approximating the sound of tape for convenience/home demo recordings that get brought to the studio, in this world his home recordings & unreleased stuff might not be plentiful

Although I'd still rather never get another D release ever of any kind and him still be alive than us get the posthumous stuff

For anyone who didn't know, udiscovermusic.com just released their "Vinylphyle" reissue of Brown Sugar. 2 LP. All a***ogue.

SOURCE: AAA. While each song on Brown Sugar has its own a***og mix reel, the album was digitally assembled for final CD and vinyl mastering for its 1995 release. For this new Vinylphyle reissue, we made new all-analog, machine-to-machine 1/2” 30 IPS production masters for each side from the individual mix reels. Those new tapes were sent to Joe Nino-Hernes and were used to cut this LP.

This is a big deal because, unless I'm mistaken, Brown Sugar has never been released AAA before. I haven't seen any reviews of this pressing yet (it was only announced last Saturday) but the ADA Mama's Gun got some great reviews for sound and pressing quality. Unfortunately the price is a big deal too at $54.98 but this was a must buy for me. I'll eat Ramen for a month if I have to. Supposed to have my copy in hand tomorrow (come on UPS!).

saw my underrated hometown funk GOAT Foley this weekend. went to his site and found this 🥲. I will say, that show was the closest I'll ever get to seeing D' - or Prince for that matter (given he performed two Prince covers, with one superseding the CDQ imo, LMAO), and I don't mean to downplay Foley in any way when I say this.

Fair. Tbh I always kind of assumed the man himself was the biggest reason for why his projects took so long, he was a huge perfectionist. I’m actually kind of more optimistic seeing that whoever is in charge of his estate didn’t rush out a half-baked release of demos or whatever… I’m hoping if they do ever release more material it’s given the care it deserves.

from his 2014 documentary at the end it said he was working on a new album. so it is possible by now it would be basically done. even during covid in thë verzuz hë said hë was working on new stuff
