Its more a movie where you are there for Inde. All their performances solid for newcomers. Simple concept that isnt trying to be overly realistic and focus on all the variables its a fairytale like story.
An extended black mirror episode type of thing but the focus is more twilight zone since it isnt technichally technology even though tech does play a part. This was never shooting for best picture
I am confused on why people are so harsh about it or what they wanted to see more of . I feel it accomplishes its message but think it could have shown more of Nikkis perspective throughout the movie
KTT threads is for circle jerks I fogot. Yall behaving like Drake fans
you just said the word "embarassing"
lol

I think Bear lost any sympathy or benefit of the doubt when he gets on the phone with the company and, when asked if he wants to cancel the wish, his response is “well.. what if I just wanted to alter it?”
Honestly, a part of me believes they would have canceled the wish if he asked, but instead let his only option be suicide because he was such a piece of s\*\*\*. He didn’t care about her suffering, only the consequences it was having on his own life.
I think there is a lot to discuss about the movie what it did and didnt do wrong. Fan reaction including fans catching obvious things and being like "did anyone else notice bear is the villain" people saying "Nikki just crazy" when Bear is the obsessed one from beginning of the movie. He could come out and say he likes her but he is afraid of being judged for it or rejection. So instead of giving her a gift of free will a wish he instead takes her free will which is dark. From there some beats work some dont . Characters could be more fleshed out so by the climax we see the full humanity of each of them. But the movie isnt trying to get you to think any of the friend group is good or perfect. They are all keeping different secrets or insecurities from each other that partially leads to their demise. If they were all honest with each other and believed in each other there wouldnt be the horror we got.
Is it the scariest movie? No its offputtting at times . Psychological horror at times. Slowly realizing the main character is even worse that you once believed. While again he isnt an loser because as they have said they combined take of Nikki interested in him and not interested in him. The state he makes the wish in is desperation possibly grief. He wants to be loved more than anything in the world like his cat loved him or his grandma perhaps. Without considering again romance . He doesnt wish to know the truth of whether Nikki likes him he wishes for her to f***ing love him
Its a far from perfect movie but on a 750,000 budget with packed theaters still the viral success cannot be denied. Even if that viral success at times comes at serving the greatest common denominator memes, moments and a lack of true care about the dark topic

Exactly this

You are saying its a circle jerk when you arent saying anything of value or a complete sentence. I am typing paragraphs which include critque and constructive criticism. We understand parts or the entire movie didnt work for many. We understand why.
you want us to respond to your high school way of speaking by posting a clip and saying the word embarrassing but not with what you dont like about it with "wow twin you are spitting"?
If you want to speak in a forum say a complete thought to prove you have them rather than "when you grow old and look back on this movie you will feel how I did"
It was a 2 hour movie popcorn movie with a basic premise pushed to extremes. We werent terrified it was a premise we had heard of or thought of before. Is there ways I wish they would have explored it more to make it a true romance story exploring both humans desires ? Yes. There are just limits of budget , writing and reality
Glad it was successful
No matter how much b****ing you do on the internet the movie was financially succesful

you say we are d***riders and say we lack the ability to discuss or criticize the film. Then when we do you say "I just wanted to say its ass not a discussion". We know you think its ass youve tell us every day for a month. We arent just in here saying its perfect or ass we are discussing the movie on a forum. If I think something is ass I either say what I did and didnt like about it and move on not do this performance for attention.

Re: "Bear is actually the villain"
The movie starts with him losing the only person he was close to: his cat. The grandmother he was probably second closest to is already dead. His friends call him a closed book. He's in a friend zone with a girl his best friend is f\*\*\*ing.
What is his ambition in life? To be a food critic? There's nothing there. It's a void. It's a cabinet full of pills in an empty house. Then his wish comes true. Are his actions selfish and cruel beyond that point? Absolutely. The story is set up to make it impossible for him to let go which allows the story to progress where it does. Hence "or you could kill yourself". There's already a gun to his head.
The lesson of that story comes in recognizing Sarah, someone who allowed him to grieve, someone with an interest in him. Nikki finds her character in mental illness, substance abuse, toxic codependence, bullying (Freaky Nikki). Bear is a villain the same way magic is real. That's not really what the movie is about.
Yeah, her grift will be unmatched. Timothee Chalamet but for chronically online women 🔥
Bro been here weekly acting like they haven’t

Poor you for having to see people who like something you didnt
I wish it was just a bad movie. (But it definitely is that too.)
It’s an evil movie that doesn’t even come close to making the points it thinks it does. It’s a misogynistic, male-gaze centered loser wet dream. Curry Barker is maybe the worst to ever do it and I wish him zero success in the future. The only way audiences can approach it and find any appreciation for it is because they are looking at it through an external lens separate from the movie. They see Bear, they know the deal, they know what he is and they assume the movie is going along with them, but it’s not, it never is, and Barker doesn’t even shy away from that.
A quote from him taken directly from The New Yorker:
“It starts from a very innocent place with Bear. I wanted it to be relatable. We've all had a crush on someone who didn't like us back-which is kind of a creepy concept, when you think about it," Barker went on. "You imagine this whole reality that may never be." Such obsession can be a frightening emotion both for the person experiencing it and for the target. One of Bear's first lines, as he talks about his love for Nikki, is "I feel like I'm coming apart." The fact that he never manages to confess this to her is part of the horror: Barker wanted to play on the very modern fear, among young men, of "not saying the right thing, or not wanting to not come off like a creep.”
He doesn’t see his own character for what many who enjoy the movie assume it has to be. If anything he sees both Bear and Nikki as victims but in this type of movie, with these kinds of themes, that’s not nearly good enough. At best it’s dangerously noncommittal, and at worst it’s sociopathic.
Easily a worst of the decade contender.
Cast innocent.
I don’t grasp how this is some people’s take away when he has said bear is the villain and why
Also this is a dark comedy. People told me their theaters weren't full of laughter? So much funny stuff in this.
Calling this an loser fantasy when he could have prevented it by being honest . He dies. His friend who was having s\*\*\*with Nikki is killed by her . The woman who truly loved him no wish needed dies . He kills himself . The fantasy for him is the horror to the audience. The fact he is accepting she has no free will is the horror to us. He isn’t supposed to be a likable character he is quickly viewed as reprehensible . We are on the edge of our seats to do what Nikki does next but in our heart we know she isn’t the villain the person who took her free will is . Its abhorrently clear the entire movie
Everyone talks about the performance but I was really impressed by how the filmmaking supported that performance. This kind of role can really miss if it isn't handled properly. They're lighting her right, framing her right, mixing her dialogue with intention, using the score to underline everything she's doing. Sometimes an actor has to do a lot with nothing. There is a ton of well considered support here.
Apparently Rocky Burwell did the score, the son of Carter Burwell who scored all of the Coen films.
I love my twin @Thread but they watched the movie while turned around facing the projector and back of the theater .
The moments she covers her face like with the flowers it isn’t her . When they make eye contact throughout the film that is often when the real Nikki emerges . As well as sleeping that’s why the possessed Nikki mentions having nightmares and is afraid to sleep because real Nikki will take control

Yeah I like that they'd film scenes with 1 take her being really interested in Bear vs another take where she isn't interested and just mashed them together to keep you guessing...especially pre-wish it intrigued me but even after the wish the subtle drop ins of real Nikki were quite unsettling
Also this is a dark comedy. People told me their theaters weren't full of laughter? So much funny stuff in this.
A girl I knew who saw it found it more hilarious than scary but just bc how it played with relationship dynamics mostly
I gotta watch it again now that it's on digital bc I feel like I'll appreciate some aspects more
I do feel some people completely misinterpreted the film to think Bear is the victim/good guy and idk how that happens because it was very obvious to me even before hearing all the interviews Curry and the cast did
Making the wish itself was innocent enough bc he didn't think it'd work and really who would? (He also wasn't considering the deeper implications obviously it was done out of frustration and panic) I'm sure everyone at one point in their lives has "wished" a crush would feel the same way they do about them usually when you're younger...the film takes that and uses it as a lesson for why ultimately you should respect someone making that decision for themselves rather than controlling their decision making for them and also comments on how obsessing over one person leaves you blinded to those who actually do care about you...a lot of other stuff too but yeah once he asks if he can just alter the wish and also when Nikki is in bed talking to him as real Nikki begging for his help and he's just "what's so bad about me huh?"...selfish and despicable...he also tries backing out of "saving her" in the end with the suicide but she stops him backing out by using his wish about her against him
Yes he experienced loss and was in a bad place emotionally which leads to a certain empathy for the guy but it doesn't excuse taking away someone's autonomy for your own win especially since he immediately sees something is wrong and rides it out rather than doing whatever he can to help her...ultimately he didn't care as much about her as he did himself and the void that "having her" would fill for him

Interesting approach. Haven't read anything about the making of it yet.
When she first turns it reminded me of interacting with someone experiencing a concussion. People will not make any sense and then seem normal and then break down crying or laugh at the wrong time. Very similar vibe
