I was being unkind to Wolf Creek and Cold Prey. Two pretty good non-US slasher franchises

I haven't seen em but folks love the Wrong Turn movies too

Wrong Turn is 03. Same year as Texas Chainsaw remake. Pre Saw.

Stuff like Hostel and Hatchet are post Saw. Hills Have Eyes Remake. Those all mostly get beaten out by the Paranormal Activity wave of bullshit supernatural trash.

All because of this god damn rights issue

Reading it I can see why this version of the show was scrapped now. I think it was way too ambitious, sprawling, and expensive a show that got too big for A24 who usually does low budget stuff to handle.

And the 2009 remake already did the remake the first 4 movies trick that this was gonna do minus Pamela and the deconstruction angle.

It sucks because I like Fuller work. Hannibal was dope. It just wasn't meant to be.

What was they planning on doing with this

Can a director of note please just make a new slasher? These movies are dirt cheap and easy to greenlight.

Which isn't to say people will like it. But I will! I don't mean an indie like Terrifier. Nothing artsy like In a Violent Nature. Just a dumb mean teen s***comedy slasher of yesterday. F*** universes and lore. This franchise hardly had continuity to begin with

WHO CARES IF NO ONE ELSE WILL LIKE IT WHY CANT THEY MAKE A SLASHER THAT I WILL LIKE!!!

their is no rights issue, not anymore at least. sean just can't find a studio thats interested in doing another movie. they did the show because peacock gave them $85 million to do it.

    It’s a little more complicated than that…

Sean S. Cunningham also kept control of the intellectual property from the Friday the 13th sequels. What does that mean? As Victor Miller only wrote the first movie, he only retained the intellectual property from that project. If Miller wanted to greenlight a movie called Friday the 13th about camp counselors getting killed at Camp Crystal Lake, so be it. There was just one major flaw though. Jason Voorhees is not in the original Friday the 13th film. As Ghostface will be happy to remind you, it was his mother, Mrs. Voorhees, who was the killer.

Miller is only able to do anything coming off the original film

im familiar with the lawsuit and the settlement. crystal lake productions already said the only thing holding them back from a new movie is someone to pull the trigger and fund it. Vic Miller doesnt need to be involved, since Sean has the rights to everything after the first film the only potential legal issue is using the name "Friday the 13th". but that was already a legal issue back in the day, New Line got around it by calling the movies "Jason" (i.e Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, etc.).

These dudes Miller and Cunningham really missed out on sitting on literal stacks of money by now over some dumb ass petty beef.

We could have been on the third Friday the 13th reboot by now smh.
