Persona is like the greatest movie ever.
Agreed. Seventh Seal is a masterpiece but not even like Top 5 because he’s so good. Persona, Cries and Whispers, Fanny and Alexander, Autumn Sonata, Winter Light and Wild Strawberries are all amazing
Great ass film. Bleak as f*** but still darkly comedic. Was it your first Bergman?
3rd! After Persona & Wild Strawberries
persona, wild strawberries, seventh seal, winter light and fanny & alexander top 5 for me. autumn sonata and cries and whispers are goat too but i like those more. hour of the wolf is up there as well.
tbh i like practically like all his s*** after summer with monica. v important piece for how women were portrayed, at least in sweden
using our tax payers' money to restore bergman films is def the best thing our government has done

Seventh Seal 10th
Wild Strawberries #1
What film you starting with?
Most accessible is Stalker which I very recommend, but my favorite of his is Andrei Rublev.
Stalker is pretty much mystery element in it but Solaris is psych n dreamy

Scenes of a marriage is a masterpiece as well

when fanny and alex knocks 7th seal out of your top 10 :okay:
anybody else find they were already primed for Seventh Seal and Matter Of Life & Death because they grew up watching Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey?
yall need to watch that

i started with solaris and it took years for me to step to another tark tbh. such regret.

Might just happen 👀

I can imagine. For some reason it gets talked about like a good/easy starting point which confuses me. Feel like people seem to talk about it like it's just this straight forward sci-fi, which it is in parts but it clearly isn't altogether.
Definitely glad Solaris wasn't my first Tarkovsky. It's really dense because he's actually doing so many different things at the same time.
And for the current topic: I don't rate 7th Seal that highly for Bergman either tbh.
