It's an exaggeration, but not as much as you'd think tbh
Press play on The Big Sky and watch the first 4-5 minutes. The first scenes look like you're watching a Super 8 recording of rough cuts in the editing room lol
the french DVD which has the extra 20 minutes has sourced them from the only available source, damaged 16mm prints
there was another 20 minutes cut but that's before the film was released
can't compare it with the stream on the channel since i've paused my subscription, but this looks rather ruggid (4gb rip with the 121 min runtime)
yeah, this really needs a restoration and idk why the f*** the film foundation is parading this film while it looks like microwaved dog s***

I know criterion did the Melvin Van Peebles essentials, but what else has dropped recently?

besides the MVP box, there's love & basketball, deep cover, one night in miami and the learning tree. i think these are all of em

Oh, I was wondering besides criterion. I should've clarified

other labels are slacking. even criterion really. there was an article complaining about the representation of black filmmakers in the collection
vinegar syndrome drops stuff occasionally but it's p much always lower budget blaxploitation films and never arthouse films. they did release MVP sweet sweetback 3 years ago though and it's the same transfer as the criterion one

There’s Touki Bouki that was released a while ago separate from WCP set. I recommend that film the most. 👍
