So you are saying that an artist’s upbringing justifies him promoting “violence” but that the same environment of being hyper masculine shouldn’t lend him to have homophobic views? If that’s your stance, it’s very selective.

I’m going to keep saying this. Within hip hop culture, it’s disingenuous and hypocritical to take such an adamant stance on this and then simultaneously not have any moral urgency on the overwhelming content that should be deemed as wrong. If we’re talking right or wrong, it doesn’t make sense. Hip-Hop is very brash and offensive by nature. I’m not going to say how dare dababy say this, when I haven’t taken any stance on him having a lot of lyrics that if you apply the same logic to, you should have equal outrage. S*** is dumb lol.

Where did I justify it? I’m critiquing the audience’s hypocrisy, not defending dababy. That’s just your misreading and projection. I’m saying as the same mass consumers, many who did not grow up in the streets, others who do not have to face the realities of the consequences that motivate their content, if you’re happily content consuming the content for personal entertainment (which is inspired at the detriment of people who come from unfortunate situations), then it is quite hypocritical to turn around and now hold a moral high ground on the same artist bc their content and bravado finally stung your sensibilities. It was never that artist’s platform to begin with. It’s a pretty simple concept.

Hip hops violent lyrics can at the very least be justified based on where the rappers grew up. We all on some level know it’s wrong, but we also GET why that type of content exists. So most people aren’t in any rush to condemn it.

If a rapper goes and says something homophobic tho, what’s the justification?

I’m not trying to justify it. Lol. You keep dancing away from what I’m saying about the consumer. But let’s go with your question just as an exercise. You think the environment that fill in the blank rapper grew up in, and was raised in, was the beacon of progressive sexual identity concepts while also being a place of gang violence, d****, whatever tropes you want to throw at it? This once again shows you’re only allowing yourself to make exceptions for the things a rapper says that don’t bother specifically you.

Nope, there’s homophobia is every community not just the hood.

The gang violence and d**** is literally the main things that these street rappers focus on tho to the point where they make up entire sub genres like Drill and Trap.

it's not some secret that black people are not the biggest fans of homosexiality

You make a good point with the voter idea but

For rappers, people who are celebrities and in the public eye, who more often than not work with gay people, who have publicists and teams who advise them, it's even more embarrassing that they pull the stunts and say the things they do about gay people/the community

And even more embarrassing when they get called out for doing something and they deflect to something else, i.e DaBaby talking about police violence like the black community didn't already go through months of people being fake allies and "caring" about BLM. We were all present last year, there was at least fake support shown, he doesn't have to deflect to something serious to smokescreen his unnatural comments.

a rapper who grew up in a homophobic environment is not choosing to work with gay people. they definitely work with gay people (publicists, stylists, etc.) but it's not like they're handpicking these people

rappers also don't form close relationships with those people. those people are like waiters to them. service workers. if they are around them at all.

a rapper like Da Baby is around (and respects) his shooters, not whoever is doing his grooming and makeup

forget what's right or wrong. for the sake of their careers, these rappers should say nothing negative about homosexuality. but homophobia is so ingrained in them that they are willing to lose millions (or at least hundreds of thousands) to be homophobic

(although they have lots of money so losing millions or hundreds of thousands doesn't affect them as much)
