Ye really been doing this unfinished s*** to death. I love Ye but he’s truly one of the only musical acts that can get away with releasing something unfinished to the fans. I can’t imagine the backlash if any other rapper did that. Imagine if Drake released CLB and he was mumbling on Champagne Poetry

he does it and they call it a masterpiece. literal demos

Ye is going out like Westbrook and AB rn

Dude kinda tarnishing his legacy wit the youth, I swear the documentary even highlighted this wit Coodie daughter watchin Ye on TV present day

I think he should jus focus on his entrepreneurships at this point, his brand bigger than being a music artist rn.

Ye's legacy is already solidified at this point. Nothing will take away the classics he has already made and who tf cares about the youth when music is consumed like fast food these days

Surely songs like Off the Grid and Praise God helped his reputation with the youth though? anyway I think he thinks he has to keep doing music to promote all the other s***.

He clearly care about the youth if he’s opening opportunities for kids like Donda Academy

I’m talkin bout a music standpoint, his music is timeless for us because we grew up on it and understand the impact

Hmm the songs were good but I don’t think they compare to the Ye hits we grew up on, especially in terms of culture impact

He influencing fashion heavy for the last 15 years, he really could stop dropping music at this point. Jay hasn’t had an album since 2017 and if he dropped right now it would go crazy.

I think ye just doing what he knows but it’s really obvious he out his prime, his supe om is what is getting the music the attention, not the quality

U2 dropped an album on everyone’s iphone with an intro track that only had a few repeated sentences and a bunch of hums and ohs - genius.com/U2-no-line-on-the-horizon-lyrics - given their past releases, sounds like this that were prevalent thru the project were lazy and unfinished. but U2 got more criticism for it being forced on the iphone versus the actual music since they were still positive in media

reviewers just want to nitpick to create or follow general media and pop culture narratives. ye’s album being unfinished garnering this reception has more to do with the ills in media then with ye being unable to serve a complete album to his fans. he offered more then a project, he offered a potential return to physical and/or digital sales in the music industry through his stem partnership and potential for greater artist ownership with a DTC model that allows for artist access to the most crucial data, their fans

all i’m saying is other artists could release and have released sounds that seem unfinished to fans in context of the artists discography’s and folks tend to not make big splashes abt it

It is what it is my man, no one can stay on top forever. It's easy to forget kanye has been in the game for damn near 20 years with how culturally relevant he has managed to stay.

But I don’t care about CLB or comparing DONDA 1. I barely even care about this album. It’s embarrassing at this point and if you can find the gymnastics to justify it’s current existence, then more power to ya bro.

everything is about competition to them. lost count of how many dumbass posters on here will randomly bring up a artist you like to rail on and call you a stan when they just look like one

idk what u or others talk bout when u use the word justify

no1 needs to justify the albums existence, it exists that's just the be all end all of it no justification needed this isn't like a "you need to justify why you're eating a whole cheesecake on a diet" kinda thing

as for ppl thinking these reviews are dumb, it's mainly the ones that have silly headlines like this where the reviewers pretend they can see the future and know the foregone conclusion of how this unfinished album will be when it is finished. and even then i don't think people are saying that these reviews Shouldn't exist, they're just saying that they're stupid cus they overly rely on clickbait gimmicks like pretending the reviewer is raven baxter

you have a good point but going about it in a weird way cause these same people don’t have Hov in their top 5 either lol I think Donda 1 is a great album just too long. None of it is ass at all. The way he goes about RELEASING music is trash though.

For sure they're not as big as Can't Tell Me Nothing or Gold Digger. But still they're hits. Tbh I think people forget a lot of the details. Keeping himself in people's playlists all 2021 with Praise God or for me 24, Off the Grid and Believe What I Say, is really good for a legend. Legends like Jay, Em and Wayne didn't do that with people our age and below with their last projects.

At the end of the day Ye is #1 US streaming artist on Spotify right now (or at least top 10). Donda has to be playing a part in that right? And so do 'the youth' you're talking about. Why would he stop now? From a music industry/business point of view - why would you stop when you're close to the top again?

Considering he's pretty much a self confessed narccasist I find it funny though that he's refusing to do the victory lap that's literally laid out for him. With the doc and Donda and GAP and Yeezy.

He's way out of his prime but between him and his team if he wanted to he could put out good to perfect albums every 2 years. The 20 best songs from Ye/KSG/Donda/Yandhi/Jesus Is King is at least 2 good albums worth of music. It's a choice to put out these messier releases. They must think it makes business sense or something? Idk

I think when it comes to stuff he’s releasing now, it’s critiqued harder than normal because of the antics he’s done outside of music. I don’t think an album like Pablo would have been received well if he put on the hat in 2016 tbh. Nowadays in order to get universal praise, he has to drop an MBDTF quality album and he’s definitely not doing that. Donda 1 is the best work he’s put out in years (not counting KSG)

  • Mar 7, 2022

It’s clear as day after watching that doc that Kanye replaced anyone who would check him with a bunch of yes men who will sign off on whatever bullshit he does and he’s got a cult like following that will justify it. He’s literally the only person who could get away with it. Whether that’s a good thing or bad thing isn’t my call but it’s the truth

yeah and tbh Donda did get a better reception from fans, on streaming and a lot of hip hop podcasts like Budden. It's really the types of reviewers who write in papers and for music magazines that cover all genres that s***ted on Donda.

But I think in the end with music people don't remember the s***. Donda has weak songs like Remote Control but all people will remember is the songs they added when it first came out. It's the same with his whole career. In the end people will remember Yeezy and the music. That's why the whole 'ruining the legacy' conversation feels very in the moment. All the stupid little details like Pete Davidson will get forgotten about.

Nah cuz Frank Ocean doesn’t Drop music spontaneously. He’s one of the most calculated artists in the game. Everything he drops has been planned meticulously.

That’s how Kanye was up until 2015.

Kanye’s gotta stop trying to dictate the zeitgeist, he’s like 6-7 years removed from that and can make absolutely amazing music if he stops worrying excessively about his public position
