My dad was the 3rd person to test positive in our city. My mother and I took care of him during that time. We never tested positive and also never tested for antibodies.

Hi guys, not looking to argue about anything just looking for information.

If you can still spread the virus after taking the vaccine, why is it such a big deal if someone chooses not to get the vaccine and risk their own health?

Achieving herd immunity requires 75-85% of the community immunized (vox.com/coronavirus-covid19/2020/12/15/22176555/anthony-fauci-covid-19-vaccine-herd-immunity-goal) , so until that number is reached the disease will continue to infect people. Also if I recall we don't know whether or not the disease is spread post vaccination, the trials were ran to test efficacy only, not spread, so we're moving forward assuming the worst until we know for certain. @str8dollaz might be more informed though he's our resident MD.

It spreads mostly thru gatherings right?

Or are Californians still lax about the masks like Floridians?

I predict a lot of people going maskless at stores and lying to the managers/owners saying they got vaccinated (when they didn’t) just to get over not wearing one. This is gonna be the next big issue to have to deal with

Getting a vaccine shouldn’t exempt you from wearing a mask. Stores should have a zero tolerance policy

Frankly, when next flu season rolls around, we're going to be grateful that masks have become more common. They are good for public health, especially during periods when hospitals experience greater strain on their capacities. We can learn a lot from this dark time if we choose to.

Unfortunately, it seems that many are using it as an excuse to become resentful of governing bodies rather than asking what they can do to help.

Both. Between multigenerational households, essential workers that can't perform their obligations from home, a dominant culture that throws parties for everything (this has happened in both neighborhoods I've lived in this year), and a great deal of stubbornness all around, California is a disaster.

I've been laying in bed since last Saturday from this fatigue, man. It hurts to breathe and this fever still hasn't gone away yet.

Someone from H.R. called me three days ago and she basically was telling me that there was nothing they can do, and the only option would be termination for my missed days so far.

this is so f***ed. this shouldnt be allowed. f*** the gop

    idk tbh

Your options are probably to call HR to tell them that they can't fire you for being sick, to call a lawyer, or to call your doctor to get a sick note. Maybe all of the above

Contact a lawyer, then call HR and tell them what's going to happen if they fire you.

"As described in FAQ 1, the FMLA and other federal laws protect qualified individuals absent from work because of a serious health condition. Similarly, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against individuals with a disability. In certain circumstances, an employee who has an underlying condition exacerbated by the coronavirus (for instance, asthma or a heart condition) may be considered disabled.

The ADA defines a disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a history or record of such an impairment, or a perception by others of such an impairment. Besides prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities, the ADA requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for such individuals. State and local laws sometimes extend additional protections for people with disabilities or serious health conditions.

Local and state laws may provide even greater protections for employees. Click for information regarding protections for employees in California, New York, and Washington D.C."
