Yep. Their lockdowns were actual lockdowns. And nobody is denying wearing a mask.

70m+ people voted for trump in this country

you think those people believe in wearing masks when Trump himself didn't wear one until July.

You missed the point. We both know Trump is the ultimate worst when it comes to this pandemic. His supporters tend to be awful, too.

The rest of us, who know better, should do better, especially if we're constantly criticizing Trump. I know good and well some of us are still out partying and not taking this seriously.

It's an American problem, not just a Trump problem. Excessive individualism and entitlement are toxic.

What happens if 70 million plus (I’m being ultra conservative, I don’t think we want to know the number) don’t ever take the vaccine in highly trafficked areas in the us? Can they shut us down if the spike hits again in winter 2021? 😳

The number of people who need to be vaccinated to get the r0 (number of people per infection the virus spreads to) far enough below 1 to end the pandemic depends on how effective the vaccine itself is.

We don't know that exact number for certain yet, but if it's 90-95%, 70 million people out of 330 million would not be a problem. However, it would take a lot longer than if everyone was on board because there would still be somewhere for the virus to spread.

The danger was in the possibility that the vaccine was only 50% effective and half the population wouldn't take it. At that point, it's not very helpful. But I don't think that will be the case. And I believe the effectiveness will impact the number of people who want to take it.

This implies if you take the vaccine right?

    Hmm

I thought they already knew that antibodies last only few months and there are cases of people who got Covid for the second time after they have recovered?

If antibodies were the be all end all of immunity, vaccines wouldn't work for very long. Covid antibodies have a half life of 3 months but the memory cells that create antibodies last much longer.

There will always be exceptions though. If you didn't have an intense immune response the first time around, or you are immunocompromised, you can always get it a second time, and it could be worse. Vaccines streamline this process to synthesize a good immune response.

I see, thanks for clarifying. I was under the impression that antibodies play significant role in immunity.

I'm not the best with a***ogies but think of it like

The immune system as a whole is the army

The white blood cells are the soldiers

    Their weapons are antibodies

And the memory cells (t cells and b cells) are the factories that make more weapons (antibodies) when they break down
