I am actually seeing people on twitter still claiming this to be a media hoax and that it's not that bad of a situation. They're literally brainwashed. These right wing conspirators are dangerous and their believers are f***ing idiots. How can they be real?

I don't think it's a complete media hoax but there's things that are definitely bullshit.

In King County, where I live, the governor admitted after 2 months that the numbers were wrong. They told us about 28 - 30 people were dying a day from COVID. The way media gets around on Twitter/Facebook I hadn't seen more than 1 or 2 posts total about a death in King County.

They included 'gunshot' victims in the COVID numbers and admitted to it. So for 2 months King County sounded like it was gonna be wiped out by COVID and everyone was freaking out.

and then you've got the verified "celebrity" users who are ranting about it killing millions of people and spreading hysteria. It's a horseshoe of complete insanity that you could only find on social media. I hope Twitter dies pretty soon, it's beyond saving

Sounds like a poorly managed situation. Don't think that it's commonplace tho. Where I live, the counties repsonded pretty early so it's not truly crazy, but everyone is obviously cautious

I haven't seen any of this. Idk how people can blatantly lie about it killing millions when the readily available numbers don't even come close. Still, I think a lot of people are rightfully gauging this as a serious thing. Twitter's not going to die for a while and if it did then another social media would take it's place. Twitter does nothing to facilitate the kinda stuff that comes from it. It just amplifies the voices of the people that would say the same thing on a different platform

I under the desire to want to go out and do the things you did before the pandemic, but I don’t understand how people find it enjoyable with all the rules in place.

At this point, I still see my friends. We still get together to eat or have a few drinks but we do it elsewhere for now. Like I’m perfectly fine ordering takeout and eating it outside somewhere else or just taking it home and drinking at the crib with like 2 of my friends is okay for now. I don’t understand the need to go sit down on a restaurant right now and be waited on.

This is the mentality that we need everyone to have

The virus does indeed exist, and it can potentially kill you if you're elderly or immunodeficient . But it's also blown wayyy out of proportion by the media.

I'd also say that people that depend on information from media sources like CNN and CBS are just as brainwashed as some of the right-wingers you mentioned.

C.) Up to 80% of all test-positive persons remain symptom-free. Even among 70-79 year olds, about 60% remain symptom-free. Over 95% of all persons develop at most moderate symptoms.

I don't personally identify with the left or right , but there's definitely factors and statistics that shouldn't be ignored. Everyone also needs stop dividing this issue by turning it into some "right vs left" BS.

If someone wants to enjoy a walk outside without a mask , it doesn't mean that they're a evil, racist, selfish, white-supermacist, grandma-killer.

And if someone choses to wear a mask it doesn't mean they're a stupid liberal pawn.

people should be able to make their own choice

This is going to be the first week I even take the step to see friends. I haven't wanted anyone near my kid, but my wife is going to visit family out of state, so I'm inviting friends over, one per day, and we're getting takeout. They work from home and are just as careful as I am about quarantining, so I can actually enjoy their company without feeling anxious.

the 2nd D article you sent looks like it's somewhat taking the stance that the president of Tarzania is wrong. Also I think it's impossible to say that this isn't a politcal issue when the handling of it and approach are greatly affected by Trump. From what I gather from that first study is that most people will go on unaware that they have the virus and that .1% figure also seems weird because they have other higher figures. I don't know what studies can be deemed entirely conclusive yet because there are such large disparities in stats between countries (cebm.net/covid-19/global-covid-19-case-fatality-rates). I don't believe corona is necessarily a fear for myself but I do worry for the older crowds and those that are elderly and have existing medical issues. Also even the data mentioned in the 2nd article had such large variations in danger "<65 years old during the period of fatalities from the epidemic was equivalent to the death risk from driving between 13 and 101 miles per day for 11 countries and 6 states, and was higher (equivalent to the death risk from driving 143-668 miles per day) for 6 other states and the UK"

some states were 13 to 100 miles while some were 143 to 668. That is such a strange gap

Greg Abbott really only said people SHOULD stay at home.

That's what I said a few days ago. They won't impose a second lockdown.

My uncle in Iraq just tested positive for coronavirus. This thing seems to have hit the Middle East hard the last couple weeks. Inshallah it slows down soon.
