The distrust of the media is because of Trump's "fake news" bullshit. The media reported on the severity of this 2 f***ing weeks ago. The headline from the WHO 2 weeks ago read "Americans should prepare for drastic changes to their daily lives as a result of community outbreak of the Coronavirus."
Trump was able to convince millions of Americans that the media was not only lying about the severity of the disease, but lying about the disease existing in general.

Yep. Like yeah the media has shown to be somewhat dubious at times but the politicians like Trump have villified their role in the society so much that they've become kinda useless in these kind of situations.
The media was really just the punching bags of every activist and politicians for the longest and this is a consequence of this movement. The media has been reporting the dnager of this kind of disease for months but people just decided not to recognize it because they thought that it was all a commercial ploy from CNN or some s***.
