im so bad at math it makes me wanna kms tbh
GPA killer
This might be s***ty advice, but if you've been bad at math up until this point and found ways to "get by", continue this trend. S*** not worth going insane over.
It just sucks that these math courses have such high credit hours and ruin gpas in the process
work wasnt able to give me part time for school. s*** pissed me off but going have to get really good at managing my time
it’s def worth a shot. you may end up liking code
for me math isn’t my strong suit and when i got to the intro coding classes like python, c++, and c, i just knew it wasn’t for me. the web design and data a***yst (SQL) courses were pretty fun tho
but information tech was more my speed. it’s a broad field and you can choose to focus on a part you’re interested in. cybersecurity and networking are the 2 major areas and troubleshooting / tech support is the basic level.
i chose to focus on the networking side of things but am also looking to get into cloud computing as well
compsci is seen as the “better” field and you’ll make a lot of money if you’re good at it, but some IT jobs pay very well if you get the right certifications.
also in college, both fields will somewhat overlap in the beginning so if you ever wanna switch it’s not like you’re wasting time
How is IT in regards to math
i ended up getting accepted into a business school so now im doing finance/accounting since it fits my personality better, this will be my 4th year of college and my 5th college LOL, atleast i went to CC for a large duration so ill be graduating with less than 100k of debt, thats why CC is the way to go
How does it fit your personality better
?
idk how interested u are at coding but i was a compsci major who switched to information technology cause i hate math and programming
How different is it from cs? do you have a career and or certs for IT yet?
How is IT in regards to math
the highest level math course i’ll need to take is discrete math. CS goes beyond that
How different is it from cs? do you have a career and or certs for IT yet?
so the two majors kinda overlap. once you get into past all the general education courses, you’ll be placed into some programming classes with CS students
but later down the line once you chose a field in IT you wanna specialize in you’ll be able to branch off into networking, cyber security, cloud computing, etc
right now i’m still taking gen ed courses but next year i plan on going for certs. probably starting with the basic A+ and Networking+ and building from there. alot of the professors i’ve spoke to say certs are more important than the actual degree

i'm a cybersecurity major and i've only taken a 100 level math class.

That’s pretty cool ngl, you have your degree already?

i'll get my bachelor's at the end of next year.

i've heard if you like math and science comp sci is worth trying an might be better
would you say that's true? i'm in business but it's boring and taking calc 1 and have always like math and sci more than anything

if you enjoy calc it’s def worth looking into if you wanna challenge yourself.
i’ve also heard from others that engineering is the toughest as far as math courses go and there is also a focus in science. also accounting might be worth looking into since you’re a business major

accounting was also a snooze fest for me but it is a good degree in business that'll make you good money. weirdly enough electrical engineering shares all the same pre reqs as my degree which did make me consider it
i will def need to try out a coding course

damn these are good problems to have. you’ll def find something interesting just keep exploring :word:
im in an IT program and after passing a programming course (the last), im grateful this is an option for ppl who hate coding but still like tech (and the $$$ that follows
)

i hope so lol
i feel like i've wasted so much time in school cause i'm over 21 but i know i have mad time and just gotta get through it
bro calculus is dope lol, hated this s*** in high school
have you taken physics? taking physics alongside calc will make u love both

if u like ee u will probably like cs, definitely take a coding class or learn some in your free time, if u have a project u want to make there are enough resources online for you to make a script or simple game

i should've but i'm taking physics next year with calc 2
i hope so lol

im feeling the same way rn, i transferred to a school which already has a 5 year bachelor program and now im thinking about switching majors, i think im gonna be in school forever so im just gonna try to get a lot of different experience before i graduate and really figure out what i want to do

honestly based on how everyone talks rn i almost feel like i'd rather be in school unless i could secure a pretty good career
also yeah, i'm trying to try new things and experiences so i don't regret everything and can feel fulfilled on my choices for the future
