perhaps A new protagonist
yeah but dude was saying that he thinks that the phrase is specifically worded like that in line with time mechanics of the movie
Wait what do you think the phrase "new protoganist " means?
oof idk. Nolan def used “time” on purpose in there...
The cheesy plot writer in me puts “our”protagonist (the one just learning about this) against the more militaristic looking protagonist (maybe the main villain or just our guy post WW3?) in the newest posters, who may be the one traveling backwards but has a better grip on inversion, since he’s moving backwards? Plus he’s always wearing the mask over his face, so he’s definitely up to some other s***. My head hurts again
Maybe this movie is about the point where those times meet. The midpoint?

Damn. Shouldn’t the inverted Protagonist already know every step of the way to do everything in reverse tho?
What if the Inverted Protag is trying to stop the normal Protag from making the wrong move that will result in Branagh coming out on top, even though it seems to us like he’s trying to stop him completely in his tracks

Yep I like that idea a lot too. Maybe they’re working together.
Nolan's spectacle oriented films are way better than his smaller films, though I do agree with TDKR

TDKR is still super enjoyable, even with some minor problems. Interstellar is one of my all-time favourites and Dunkirk has grown on me big time, easily top 5 Nolan movie now.

yeah TDKR has a number of ridiculous story moments and a lot of ass pulls and conveniences and Bane as a villain is utterly ruined at the end
But it is still kinda impossible to not fall in love with how impeccably shot it is. The fact they built like a real flying Bat vehicle for TDKR and use it in these huge scaled battles is amazing. And I still largely enjoy a number of elements in it (Alfred and Bruce's relationship here is beautiful, Catwoman is well written and used, Bane is still menacing for a good portion of the movie and the opening scene is incredible, it also makes TDK better when it clearly does show that it isn't siding with the fascist strategies Batman and Gordon go along with to stop the Joker in that film)
But yeah, I do agree with the criticism of it in that the spectacle definitely really hurt the story and you could tell Nolan just wanted to show these crazy things and he wasn't really that concerned with piecing it all together in a clear way.
But I think with Inception, Interstellar and Dunkirk, these are all massive films that either used spectacle around this poetic editing form to convey emotion (Dunkirk and Inception to a degree), or clearly showcased some of the best character work and emotional value Nolan has ever had in a film (Interstellar).
While Memento is fascinatingly written, I've always found it to be quite overrated and pretty lacking in the areas outside the screenplay.

What are your thoughts on Insomnia? I still have to find the time to watch Following, but Insomnia takes the cake as his worst movie. Al Pacino showed some great acting (phone scene), but his chemistry with Williams was off. The first hour felt kinda slow and downright boring.

Yeah insomnia is his weakest movie to me. It’s also the only script he didn’t write. But tbh I still think it’s visually quite nice and the performances are v strong but yeah honestly even the directing was quite poor from Nolan. I think part of it was that it was his first major studio film so he probably didn’t think too much about the idea of linear progression in a narrative and it showed with how awkward some of the cuts are (the action often times felt very incoherent, a flaw I also noticed in Batman Begins especially with that opening brawl where the editing was supposed to portray a messy fight but instead it just plain looked incoherent and you couldn’t see anything that was going on)
