Aight man what's with this dumbass narrative that Steps Beach and No Excuses are Frank Ocean knock offs?

Been listening to Frank Ocean for a decade and some change and not once have I ever heard that nigga make a song like No Excuses. What? Is Steps Beach a Frank Ocean song because of a f***in acoustic guitar? This nigga Donald been rapping/singing over acoustic guitar tracks since 2009-2010

steps beach is a frank impression and you know it dawg

I saw so many Fraud Ocean comments in this thread, and I forgot KTT likes to imagine any song with a guitar and no drums is blonde inspired

    Alphonse:

“it did infuse his music with the stamp of Blackness he was thirsty for” (talking about Awaken)

    Truly nasty write up here

  • Kee

Alphonse/Pitchfork does this to any black artist who just alternative in nature I feel like. I think they just has a one sided perspective of black creatives.

It’s funny cause it used to be the opposite prior to the Condé Nast buyout lol

Yeah. As hard as camp can be to listen to in retrospect. At the point where I was in my life it was the only rap album that I truly felt and could relate to.
Niggas think rap has to always appeal to the marketability of cool but that album filled a void for black kids that didn’t fall into that criteria the world tells us we have to fill. It did its job. S*** got me out of a tough spot as a black kid surrounded by white folks in Mississippi. Was such an important album for me

Agreed, this is the part a lot of people miss and frequently get wrong about Binos appeal.

There’s almost no skips for me now, I can listen to this practically front to back. If I could cut one song it would be “Got To Be” but even that’s starting to grow on me, the verses at least.

It really feels like the ultimate version of all of his past works. The way it fits all different vibes like a soundtrack would, it’s such a fully realized vision even without the movie. Can’t wait for that.
