something I really hate is how people will be like “it’s Drake. Of course it’ll go #1. Song still sucks tho.” etc etc

It’s clearly false. He’s had many songs not reach that high and a song absolutely has to have replay value to hit #1. They really think a bunch of first time listens is what’s doing it

Plus, for a 5 minute slow song that wasn’t written to be catchy, when streaming has been de-prioritized in the chart’s equation, this song going number one is simply because his fanbase likes the song

    So true

No way Drake legitimately upset over criticism about a song

Not guaranteed to go #1, but any Drake single since 2018 is guaranteed to debut Top 6 at minimum.

The charts are just in a very weak spot right now that’s how SYO was able to easily snag the #1 first week, I think it’s predicted to drop to #10 the second week

Has Drake ever heavily beefed with a street dude? Meek doesn’t count..

It seems he only goes at women and dudes equally as corny as him.

I mean it may not be criticism you agree with but it’s definitely criticism.

And just for clarity, I hate the whole “came and went” argument, I think it’s stupid, but I still don’t think it’s enough to genuinely get mad at as an artist. Charlamagne didn’t say anything personal or over the line

He ain’t criticize the song at all he perpetuating a narrative that it isn’t performing well when it is

That’s like tryna take food off somebody’s plate

It seem like I’m this era the default is to defer to the journalist perspective but I’m pro artist and a lot of these media personalities be moving real greasy and deserve to be checked

Again, we still don’t know how the song will do long term, but as of right now it’s projected to fall 9 spots in its’ second week at a time when the charts are super weak. Charlamagne may not be totally wrong in a few weeks’ time.

And that’s not a mark against the song, I think it’s really good, it just doesn’t totally work as a single

They do that to dismiss the significance of Drake's dominance. "It's Drake, he'll do numbers regardless of what he drops." That's a lie.

If Drake had been dropping trash like many people online insist, his music wouldn't be still be performing as well as it does and Drake fans have proven several times that they won't support certain songs he drops if they really don't f*** with it.

I get that but I don’t think it’s enough to muddy the point. Going #1 is still difficult, a song like this remaining in the top 10 is still good.

I hear you on the charts being weak, but a hip hop artist (since they rely mostly on streaming and not radio), and especially Drake who hasn’t been pairing things with videos or vinyls or anything that typically helps the highest charting talent, getting a slow 5 minute song like this to go #1 can’t be reduced imo. Especially when a peer like Travis wasn’t able to

Fair, but it’s supposed to fall to #9 in its second week and will most likely be out the Top 10 the week after that. If it’s out of the Top 40 in a month’s time, would you say Charlamagne was right?

How we talking 2nd week when we ain’t even through the first week yet?

If it lands anywhere in the top 5 first week it’s a success, even more so since it’s something different from his more recent singles

Just because it’s not the biggest drake record of all time doesn’t mean Drake is falling off that’s insane logic, if it debuted and #15 or something then I can see a cause for concern but this ain’t that

There were plenty of singles from other legends (Jay, Ye, Wayne etc) that weren’t super duper #1 smash hits s*** is part of the process. I don’t understand this hyperbolic mindset when it comes to Drake s*** is weird and he has every right to be annoyed by it
