Overall a good album, not as good as I thought it'll be. But i probably got snippet-itis cause of the singles he dropped over the years and songs he previewed sound better than some of the songs on here.
The mixing and production choices could of been better. But his writing is very good on here tho
Favorites off 1st listen are Speed of Light, Speed of Love, Link Me, Negro Problem, No More Old Men
Think its a mix of a ton of things. Definitely think overexposure was a thing. It was cool to hate on him. The dogpiling that happened the weekend of the drop was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
That being said, I’ve had this thought brewing for a minute but I think there was a shift in culture going on at the time. Culture in 2016 when Coloring Book dropped was WAY different. It was still a Pre-Trump America. Obama-era optimism was still a thing. Chance and someone like Lin Manuel went from the biggest things to punching bags as we got more cynical.
Its interesting to watch how Drake was talking about settling into his role as the good guy on Scorpion in 2018 and his persona now is avoiding that type of look entirely. Its like Chance got caught in that transitional period between then and was one of the casualties.
Very true, a lot of factors contributed to the backlash. so i guess i do agree with the larger point @chuckienugget made with Big Day needed to be at least a very good album or it was always gonna face some level of criticism.

You made some solid observational points about society. Yeah Chance had a wide open lane entering the late 2010s but I think people slowly got sick of his persona and were I ticking for a reason to like you said dog pile him. And The Big Day being underwhelming helped. Not to mention some bad choices artistically like Chance should’ve never tried to make hit the woah ass triller music and for that to be his big single off the album was crazy.
"I still get tweets saying I miss when you was not sober. Mac died September, I cried in October. These things come too fast, I missed when it was a lot slower"
"here you take the acid if you concern, they talk about it like its some super serum"

Anyone know how this finally released. I assumed he was just waiting for some right moment to drop it but don't feel like anything has changed. Did he talk about it in some interview somewhere.
The concept of Letters is really good and the type of religious raps people wanted from him
