Noooooooooooooooooooooooo
Well ill hold off on judgement til album day
The reception to Big Day was inevitable. Despite Coloring Book being well received the tides were already turning in hip hop communities. A victim of its own success, I think. Chance was corny and it wasn’t cool to like him if you had “sophisticated” taste. KTT at the time loved to s*** on Chance even before Big Day came out. The only way the album wasn’t going to be panned was if it was a masterpiece. Instead it was more of the same, but more bloated and obnoxious. General audiences caught on that it wasn’t cool to like Chance anymore, even though generally critic scores were good.
I guess what I’m saying is that Big Day sucks, but the majority of people don’t even know why they don’t like it especially if you compare it to his previous albums. I think people rejected Chance as a personality more than the album itself, which is why it’s been so hard for him to bounce back,
Ehh this a lot of cope for Big Day. 2018/19 Chance still had a decent fanbase imo but i cant speak for KTT.
I think you could find plenty of people that could point out what was wrong with the project. A lot of praise Chance gets is for his writing and Big Day by far failed to live up to that expectation. I think if ppl genuinely got a Coloring Book 1.5. the hate wouldn't nearly have been as crazy.

I'm Surprise Ride made it, but still one of the better writing exercises he released. Do or Die feature fits well
after one spin some def nice joints a few whatever but overall prolly best we gonna get from him at this point. even though if he had the right exec producer he could make a really good album

hopefully he feels more comfortable just dropping s*** again after this

Think its a mix of a ton of things. Definitely think overexposure was a thing. It was cool to hate on him. The dogpiling that happened the weekend of the drop was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
That being said, I’ve had this thought brewing for a minute but I think there was a shift in culture going on at the time. Culture in 2016 when Coloring Book dropped was WAY different. It was still a Pre-Trump America. Obama-era optimism was still a thing. Chance and someone like Lin Manuel went from the biggest things to punching bags as we got more cynical.
Its interesting to watch how Drake was talking about settling into his role as the good guy on Scorpion in 2018 and his persona now is avoiding that type of look entirely. Its like Chance got caught in that transitional period between then and was one of the casualties.
