I actually do believe that there were coordinated smear campaigns to s*** on the album as means to "get back" at him for the way he was moving on Twitter, and for the Make-A-Wish Grammy and other industry machine s*** behind him.

All that being said, the album was also just quite s***ty, and it was easy to dunk on it. He had a lot of haters who also couldn't wait to tear him down.

You can literally hit the stubbornness & inability to hear his own music objectively throughout the album

He thinks All Day Long is a grand celebratory opener, he somehow believes the title track is impressive art, it sounds like a pastiche of unfinished demo grade half ideas

The features all outshine him, even his brother on Roo has more of a commanding, sincere presence than anything he does all album.
The features look more like him showing off who's in his rolodex than necessary additions to the album.

Even with this, they don't give their best effort for the most part, but I'd argue that's actually on Chance. Him believing that he's this profound curator that knows how to utilise features and assemble grand experiences. While also not having the ability to say 'could you do this again? This is a bit half baked.' The whole album is half baked.

What gave this man the idea to use these soulless sham Lion King musical background vocals on Zanies & Fools? His verse on that is such a poor attempt at delivering an impactful hard verse, it falls so flat, the man is flowing like a Nickelodeon Kids TV show presenter.

Huge Chance fan tbh, Star Line is my most played album last year. Big Day was bad outside of a song or two. But should it have plummeted his career the way it did? Not at all imo, it's his only miss project wise.

He says on the opening track of his new album "I had an F minus but that's behind us" so he knows it was bad, not sure why he's changing his tune now

Yeah it's really this more than anything. The album sucks, but not "Chance can't rap and is a failure of an artist forever" sucks.
