    I dont think a major rap artist has tried to make one of “these” type rap albums (“you have 25 years to write your debut album”) since lmaooo

    He's the artist & hes gotta stand on what he made, & I'll say he had a point about that, but that was also a different era of the internet compared to now.

    They really expect chance to go “yeah man my album was s*** bro” most artists not doing that even if they know it coulda been better

    Plus he already acknowledged it fell below his artistic standards on Star Line Intro

    There's also a component of the album content being too happy and wholesome for that era of irony and cynicism and it doesn't help that the music was just not all that great to overcome that

    Still never thought it was awful as an album. Listened not that not long and still like some joints off it

    Smino gave his worst verse on that album

    Lotta people say this but dijon baby one of the most joyful albums ever tbh and that’s a classic

    Chance as the type of rapper he became with Surf/Coloring Book/Big Day just wasn’t gonna work in that era of rap especially after he teased us with the Acid Rap persona (I understand d*** addiction is real and he woulda been risking his life tryna maintain that character but yeah lol)

    The Acid Rap persona carried through 3-5 major label backed albums is probably undoubtedly a HOF career in the 2010’s landscape of rap that was in between lyricism and the post 2016 d***gy triplet flow guys

    Baby is just undeniable music tho. Coloring Book (his best project) even with how great the music was on there still got the corny allegations because of its content. Now him doing similar content with less quality on the Big Day, s*** open the flood gates
