AoT did get this level of love lol.
I mean animation, my bad.
Since MAPPA took over it hasn't been even close.

I would say the first season they did was the most hype. They hype died with each season being a year apart.

WIT was always better. First few episodes of MAPPA were promising AF but then it was just like...
Did the majority of the fandom take the manga as really goofy? I always thought it had a depressing undertone which would make sense for a more realistic and muted tone for the show.
Compare it to dorohedoro which Mappa did as well. Dorohedoro manga was way more goofy compared to CSM , so the show is more colorful in its anime adaptation.
Wouldn't say goofy is the right word.
The manga has a lot of black comedy, using surrealism and crude humor in contrast to how f***ed up the world is in the story has been a staple in all of Fujimotos works so far.
I have read the Dorohedoro manga but I have not finished the show so I can't really comment on that.
A big difference in how humor is used in the Dorohedoro vs in CSM is that the characters in the former seem to be more adapted and acclimated to their world, how f***ed up it is is seen as the norm and they don't necesarrily feel the need to change it, so the story seems less serious and the characters more goofy.
Wheres in CSM characters struggle a lot more in adapting to the world they live in and actively want it to change, the story seems way more high stakes so the humorous bits stand out more.
The approach they are taking with the show would have suited Firepunch way more imo, but that's a whole other discussion.
I don’t understand what y’all hate about the anime and I read the Manga all the way through and am on part 2 now

Idk I remember everything past the 1st quarter of the manga being more on the serious side as s*** becomes more difficult. So I guess the studio decided to avoid the tone shift and have everything be cinematic

Read this. It’s really in-depth but with a lot of nuance on the situation.

Yeah, my thoughts on how this is an interesting adaptation with a more muted and realistic approach. If they do eventually get to part 2, then I would be cool with raising the goofiness and vibrancy as the world accepts devils

Me either. In all honesty so far the anime is making me appreciate little moments in the manga that i didn't really care about. Like the only thing i can really think of as a legit complaint is denji's expressions aren't as over the top but even then s*** is so well animated and directed that its easy to ignore.
Liking Aki so far, mans cool and composed but lowkey a simp
. Crine at Makima pushing those 2 into his peaceful abode like that

Damn. This dude really going above and beyond for first base.
3 squeezes, that’s like 5 cents compensation
The humor does suffer a bit in the adaptation but I think the relationships are developing a lil more naturally than in the manga so far. Since csm has so much flcl in its dna I understand those who miss the silliness. I think aki will benefit the most from the tone shift. He’s the goat so no complaints from me.
Great episode, I can see why people are complaining about the adaption tbh but I feel like its really good so far. The early chapters of this series were always meh imo too so I'll prolly become more critical when they adapt my fav parts.

True , they turned the “okay” starting chapters into a spectacle. I remember being interested but not being nearly as pulled until the eternity devil .
