60's is my fav but 70's was peak because of the variety.

(funk, metal, punk, new wave, prog, disco, etc.)

I think 80s is slowly becoming my fav.

Bruh fr, it's so apparent that people are like pulling tribal type s*** over the stupidest stuff nowadays too. I find that it's pretty common with younger people surprisingly. Like sure we are more accepting about personal traits like sexuality and mental illnesses and stuff, but in terms of stuff like MATERIAL objects thats truly where the tribalism comes out. You see GROWN MEN AND WOMEN getting bullied over like brands they are wearing nowadays, like wtf? I mean sure it was always happening with kids but you now see this with adults doing this s*** It's just a weird time. So maybe that's why the clone s*** happens Insecurities about being judged? It feels like hipster-era was back when we were embracing the different ironic material posessions and looks, but now it's like a complete 180. Just weird.

i hate to use to magic c word, but all of that is just the effects of uncontrolled capitalism. thanks to consumerism we have grown ass people who won’t talk to each other just because of a PHONE BRAND. A PHONE BRAND, when they all especially now do the same things anyway. and i have a feeling it’s only gonna get worse

Sure if I only liked 1 single song by an artist, I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of that artist, just a fan of that song.

But you don’t have to have heard every song an artist has ever released to be a fan of.

Like maybe I only ever heard Views, Scorpion and NWTS..... and I liked them all.... I would still consider myself a Drake fan even if I haven’t heard Take Care or Thank Me Later or So Far Gone

Yes I would call you a drake fan too. But the argument isn’t that. @op mentioned if you only listen to “hits”. Your example now is using older albums. Yes you can be a fan and not hear every single album. But if you only know 5 hit songs then you aren’t a fan of that artist

the only thing the 80's has that i love is post-punk and early shoegaze, but there was so little of the latter, that it doesn't hold a candle to the 90's or even the 2000's. but MJ and Prince in their peak is a different beast

You are 100% on point, and it's wild how NOT alot of people even notice this. It's like people are fighting BRAND wars and MATERIALISM wars now instead of embracing whatever differences there is. It's just kind of ridiculous. Consumerism f***ed up EVERYTHING. Lets HOPE it doesn't get worse though.

I tried to in the past with my roommate who’s a Drake stan. Specifically not really “deep cuts” but more like his older material like pre-NWTS era and he wasn’t interested in it

Like even once Uptown came up on the playlist and I was lowkey excited, but he skipped over it and played One Dance

So I kinda gave up lmao

How you a Drake stab but skip uptown?

  • Jun 16, 2021

I'm not a drake fan because I like about 50 songs but I dont use drake sxn

Yea shoegaze really took off in the 90s. I love 70s too. Probably a close second for me. And besides the RnB and disco that I grew up on from that era, it’s really just a bunch of founders laying the ground for all the weird 80s genres to come. Sabbath. Iggy pop. The Ramones. Blondie. Even Brian eno with ambient music and electronic music.
80s was just a crazy period. I would love being in nyc during that post punk wave

The opposing side of the argument itt has literally also been straw manning tho lol

the entire argument is that ppl who only listen to hits usually aren’t worth putting onto music since they have no vested interest in the first place

    i don’t get the strawman

Explained what? As I said, who are you to determine who is and isn’t a fan?

If I consider myself a Drake fan and I only heard 10 Drake songs, who are you to say I’m not a Drake fan?

Some artists have a lot of hit songs

Take Kanye or Jay-Z, they have 50+ hit songs probably

If I liked all their hit songs, would I be a fan?
