Just curious, how do yall feel about Kara Eastman (very progressive woman) underperforming Biden’s results in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District?

Biden won there by 7 points, and she lost by 5.
Not saying progressives can’t overperform moderates, but I’d be curious to see some more data/larger sample size

I’m not conservative at all but

    Defund the police

    • people misunderstand this and they get scared for their safety. Lots of crime issues and to them reducing funding for police is counterintuitive

    M4A

    • people think this will hurt the economy/cost too much. Also worry that it will result in a worse healthcare system and hurt jobs by getting rid of private insurance

    Schooling for all

    • assuming this is college it’s the same thing of people worried it’ll ruin the economy in terms of cost

    Student debt remove

    • as above. Honestly as left as I am even I’m not so sure about this

    Green new deal

    • environmental regulations hurt free business and by proxy hurt the economy is the argument against it

So the answer to all questions is that these demands will hurt the economy?

Why do people talk to Synopsis when he clearly doesnt understand the Government budget or economics.

Vast majority of his responses just show his utter disdain of how things actually work and instead of admitting it and saving us the time, he goes on an entire rant about how we should just do feel good policies that arent in anyway efficient.

Dude cant fathom why people dont want to be taxed to send wealthy or more affluent kids to public schooling given that they generally already have overall better health outcomes.

But he wants to go on an entire diatribe to spite the rich. Talking about "youve never worked with poor people". Poor people dont want to pay taxes for no wealthy bozos kid 😭, fym.

And complaining about a Public Option? Why, for what purpose 😭. America could barely get the ACA and this niggas mad we might get a public option. Its still an improvement, this is like b****ing over America getting the ACA and not Joe Lieberman for f***ing up what it could have been. How are you mad at an improvement bro

Sure which is why you should make university free under means testing

Making it free for everyone just puts wealthy students at an advantage

People who dont think wealthy students wont just go to public universities are dumb as hell.

Why do you want to subsidize the funds of someone who can afford to pay for college lmao.

These people have better access to education, let them subsidize everyone elses tuition and loans.

Why would you even want your taxes floating some kid whose parents make 300k a year so they can game the system by going yo a free public university.

Thats fine, but Synopsis sounds like we should let everyone float regardless of tax bracket.

That s*** is money that could be going towards the schools being squandered in his proposal.

Making them pay a fee or something is reasonable

You can tell by how he talks this nigga is not operating in the same framework but he still argues for like 7 pages.

You make college universally free for everyone, even the wealthy, and you’ll be really surprised when it’s upper class whites at Stanford & Columbia, while everyone else is at state schools

can anybody outside of the US speak to some of the downsides of having a free education?

i understand the concept behind "there is no such thing as free lunch" but at the same time i feel like if other places have figured it out

    why can't we?

i know free education doesn't always equal good education

    but still

    i feel like it'd be a start

    overcrowded fields

    • way too many students apply for fields like philosophy, sociology, psychology with no intent to seriously study or they spend years on year 1 without much motivation. So you'll have a few thousands freshmen in a building meant for way less students and only a few hundred will actually graduate.
    • too many students go to college to work in overcrowded jobs that dont need more workers and that leaves important jobs like trades unfulfilled

    quality of education

    • courses that dont attract enough students are cancelled
    • not enough teachers for all the students
    • not enough material for some fields and too much for others (since you're now running on a public budget they cut budget for some fields that dont spend enough and give too much to others because they know how to negociate with elected officials)

all of these can be prevented with better management and more pragmatism but that's not what the public field is known for in most countries

Yes, but I work 60+ hours a week to earn a nice salary that takes care of myself & my parents. I also donate approximately 10-15% of what I earn to various organizations that focus on advancement of minority communities. Additionally I spend a lot of my free time volunteering in my community.

He s***posts online with faux-activism and refuses to vote while mooching off his parents

This idiot really said we should abolish private universities

  • Nov 10, 2020

Argue about lack of quality of education then seek to abolish the reason we have nearly half of the top 100 schools in the world just so we can have a better public education thatd still lag behind Europe, SK, and other developed regions.

How much do you guys think going to school out of state contributes to the overall student debt issue?

From my experience it was much, much easier to get in state tuition payed for via scholarships, if I were to go out of state, I would not have been allotted the same opportunity.

Housing in this situation should also be cheaper if staying at home.
