Your average voter is really something

I met a young black guy at a bar on election night that said he was a big Vivek supporter, but doesn’t like Trump so he sat the election out

A tenant leader in a building we unionized said that she voted for Obama in 2012, but realized she “only did that because he was black and that wasnt very mature of me” so she voted for Trump in 2016, then voted for Biden in 2020 because she didn’t like Trumps attitude during his presidency. Last time I talked to her she was undecided on who to vote for this time around

I am very curious about the idea of what keeps americans in america.

especially those that now see the place as a hellhole

My girlfriend seems to think it's the easiest thing in the world. think I need to let her know that's not the case.

I also am unfamiliar on how difficult it is though.

    there’s no where to go

some equally s***ty EU country? That’s arguably more racist

some Eastern European country devasted post USSR collapse that’s also arguably more racist

most of Africa? Still grippling with neo-colonialism and most people arent rushing to go live on a continent full of black people

India and China Americans are too racist to consider that outside weirdo passport bros

South America? So you can move to a region plagued by western imperialism

    Australia

Move somewhere similar to Japan and South Korea so you can have a horrible work culture and even more gender nonsense

immigration is really only easy if you're wealthy. what a lot of people do to "immigrate" is akin to the whole "digital nomad trend" - it's essentially almost always business or educational visas (or some variant). Lots of these are for highly specialized labor and require both money/status as well as a lifestyle supported by such (most people cannot just fund moving to europe at the drop of a hat to work a 50k/yr job). consider the resources needed to move on top of the actual process involved in getting said visa (no less permanency past that).

I try saying this stuff but it falls on deaf ears.

She believes cost of living in the EU is astronomically cheaper

She also has much less hold to the states than I do.

yaaa that was largely my point.

I believe if you are low income, no matter where you are life is mid as it stands. I guess the beautiful geographics among other things holds a grand luster in her heart.

the only one that is beneficial to the vast majority of people is free healthcare, and in some EU countries thats only accessible as a citizen, making immigration there for healthcare only a non-starter. thats also a matter of cost particularly. moving somewhere for healthcare alone doesnt make sense.

like yes some EU nations have okay social safety nets but you're not moving there if you're impoverished if you're moving there on a work/education/biz visa you're the one paying for it

Is it possible the senators are doing this as a tactic to get concessions from Trump?

Gaetz pissed a lot of ppl off with the McCarthy beef so it could be that too
