I think it actually works the opposite way

    More listeners makes you mainstream.

You don’t just suddenly become mainstream.

There's degrees of someone being mainstream tho. You don't suddenly just become drake when you become mainstream. Lil baby was mainstream in 2018 and has only gotten bigger because he has more visibility.

Songs play on the radios for more people to hear and talk about and get put on to. Big name producers, artists and outlets to work with.

I mean, every streaming platform recommends artists you might like and they're right most of the time.

But I do want mainstream hip hop to shift because the optics are just f***ing embarrassing to the culture

Idk how the mainstream really relates to music junkies like us needing to connect with people

Everyone I know has deeply varied music tastes that I can reach across to without needing some monoculture to bind us together

Well for example, if you go out to a party or a club or bar, likely they’re not going to be playing the non-mainstream music you like. They’re going to be playing the stuff “everyone knows”. There’s a social pressure to be in tune with what’s mainstream even if you don’t really enjoy it or are tired of it.

I went through this until I was about 16.....I feel bad for anyone older who still moves like that

If that’s where we care about the mainstream then I couldn’t care less about who it is as long as that s*** is cool

And we’re not doing bad rn

I think this thread is really just people being mad about popular sentiments not reflecting their changing habits

Music discussion on Twitter is so f***ing boring lol

  • Dec 4, 2022

I get these tweets but why they always worded to put the blame on artist who worked hard and deserving of their spots.

It’s not their fault nobody else has the star power or can connect to the masses and join them.

All the artist listed are very open to working with new artist(most of em event sign new artist) The people just not feeling the new guys like that.

Disagree, I think before Take Care Drake, Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, and a few others in that pre-Atlanta takeover cohort reinvigorated the genre when it was starting to just be like 2chainz and Rick Ross.
Idk if I’d say ktt or any of those dedicated hip hop forums discovered anyone, but in the early 2010s I remember them being a lot more interested in artists like Yung Lean, Danny Brown, Joey Bada$$, early chance, mixtape Rocky, than anything Wayne or big sean were making. There was still a noticeable divide between the forum taste and the mainstream taste. That feels a bit blurred since then.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was talking about. If Yung Lean, mixtape Rocky, Joey, etc came out today mfs would just call it mysterious music and say it don’t got hits lmfao THATS the problem

    Fair, those are decent
Though that marvel suns game looked like s*** ngl

It had been a pretty dry year besides Elden ring tho there have been several okay games that dropped this year. I’m talking bangers tho

Dunno man. Besides the games I listed + Elden Ring, we got Tunic, GT7, Horizon, Kirby, Splatoon, Immortality, Xenoblade, Citizen Sleeper (classic). And we still got stuff coming this month too. These are all bangers to me personally. Admittedly best game I played this year is a remake though (Tactics Ogre Reborn) but I got nostalgia
