WAIT A DOGGONE MINUTE
I just watched a small playthrough of Ocarina of Time and remembered that one of the ancient sages in Ocarina of Time is named RAURU just like Rauru in Tears of the Kingdom

It's weird that one sage was named after rauru and the rest are unnamed lol
He has 30 seconds of lines in a 60-hour game with a hundred characters from decades ago. Take a seat.
Take a seat?
if you were there at the time then you had probably never seen a cinematic cutscene of this length. Was a pivotal moment in realizing videogames were maturing into a real art form. And Rauru was there to guide you.

Iconic scene, should be remembered by anyone a big fan of the series.

wanted post mortem thoughts from someone who fully completed it
Did my first deathstar island, the one above gerudo highlands. That whole session up in the sky was so good, i just love being up there. I always take tons of screenshots, chill for a bit to listen to the ost, and walk around the islands. Platforming in low gravity is so much fun too
Also idk why i keep thinking to myself how the depths are fun but not the highlight of the game, and then spend 4 hours down there each time i go down a chasm. Depths gameplay loop is addictive, feels like a dungeon crawler at times

I replayed botw (a game I already had 300 hours in) again before totk, and this game felt completely fresh despite all my worries. I’m also a huge fan so my expectations were sky high and they surpassed them easily. Not only does it feel fresh from botw, but all other Zelda’s. The new abilities, especially ultrahand and fusion, are a spark of creative genius. In the way the ocarina in OOT and MM felt unique and dynamic, it’s like this game has 4 ocarinas.
It’s definitely the most replayable Zelda ever, because the puzzles all have many possible solutions. I love the classics Zelda’s but once you know the solution it really is stuck there in your memory so I really only replay for the story.
Oh and this story is easily the best in the series, the tears quest especially is one of the best quests I’ve ever played period. The payoff at the end is huge and unforgettable. That moment will stick with me for a long time.
The building mechanics alone will give this game life for years, there’s just so many possibilities considering the dozens of devices and hundreds of environmental objects at your disposal. I barley even messed with building too much and my playthrough was 160 hours. I can’t wait to dive in deeper.
The combat is fixed because of fusion, I often avoided combat in botw because it felt like a waste to break my good weapons, but now you can just constantly fuse so when something breaks you just gained a new opportunity to experiment with fusion.
Variety is this games strong suit, depths, surface and sky all feel like different beasts. There’s way more mini boss types and enemy types than ever before. The wells, caves, chasms, etc. just make the game a joy to explore.
If I have one complaint it’s that the dungeons could’ve been longer and more epic, but I really enjoyed all of the dungeon bosses. It was a touch of flavor that botw was missing, the blight ganons were the weakest Zelda bosses of any game.
Side-note: The game definitely needs master mode for people like me who need an extra challenge. I wish it launched with master mode like in the old games but I’m sure they’ll be quick with the dlc to cash in on the hype and also so that a complete edition can be sold with the switch 2 next year.

You must have an incredible memory lol cause I can replay a traditional Zelda every 3 years and of course there are certain puzzles I’ll always remember, and I remember the order of things for how things play out in the game… but as for like room to room puzzles in dungeons, if I do a replay every few years I’ve forgotten enough detail for it to be fresh lol
It’s funny though, I personally think BOTW and TOTK have the least replayability in the series. Not even in a hating way, but for me discovery and exploration were just way too big of component’s of what made the experience fun for me.
I tried replaying BOTW after logging 200 hours or so and it just didn’t feel the same at all. However, OoT, wind Waker, TP, I can play those games over and over again
80 hours in
Almost done with all light roots in the depths. Got like 2 left
Then after that clean up shrines… then try to beat it.
Iconic scene, should be remembered by anyone a big fan of the series.
I remember the scene just not that there was a character named Rauru
All light roots done
All shrines done
Now time to actually beat this game
Will be around 95-100 hours when I beat it
I beat it

All shrines done

GAME OF THE YEAR?
GAME OF THE YEAR?
I mean as of right now yeah sure. Story in this game f***ing sucks and I groan every time a cutscene plays. But it’s Zelda so that doesn’t really matter. Gameplay is great. Game is huge. And so much content.
However game is so big I have 0 desire to ever replay it or try to 100% it
For my tastes I’m sure I’ll enjoy starfield more. Maybe I’d even enjoy ff16 more when I get to it, probably won’t end up being my personal goty
But that said fantastic game. 9/10 imo. Some nintendo Ass QOL things and story brings it down from a 10

I miss linear Zelda tbh that formula better than this for my tastes
