just picked up the first book from the library of the red rising series
love when a novel randomly references other fiction work
was reading King of Ashes by S.A. Cosby and it mentioned the stories of Bryce DJ Pancake which I later read
reading Don Winslow's The Power of The Dog trilogy rn and a Mexican asks an American DEA agent at a party what books he reads and he namedrops Roberto Bolaño (who does this often too), Luis Alberto Urrea, and Elmer Mendoza. checked out Elmer Mendoza and his books have less than 1,000 ratings on goodreads. pretty cool way to get recommendations
anybody else ever read books cause they were mentioned in novels?
just picked up the first book from the library of the red rising series
Good luck, brother

Not a fantasy reader that much but somebody recommended The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie and the premise doesn't sound like it's demigod-flavored

I'd recommend The Lies of Locke Lamora/Gentlemen B******s series by Scott Lynch. The characters in the story are specialized and well trained in some subjects but are otherwise completely normal people with no magic/special powers.

Piranesi?
Fantastic book though I'm not a huge fantasy guy so it might not be what you're looking for
Just read Norwegian Wood. Not sure how to feel about it but it kept me immersed I’ll give it that. I’ll collect my thoughts in a bit
Been reading Fonda Lee’s Jade Legacy, just finished chapters 49 & 50, and man. This s*** has got me bawling my eyes out
This turned out to be a great trilogy. A great exploration of culture and tradition vs modernization. How it affects family, individuals, businesses, and countries. By book 3 the way the characters have grown, and see how life’s experiences have changed them - really great series. Then on top of all that it’s some supernatural martial arts mob s*** going on. It’s been said of the series, but to sum it up in a sentence, The Godfather just a lil supernatural.
It is distinctly its own thing however.
I read the first 3 novels in The High Republic Star Wars line. Idk if I’m gonna continue, I just read through them to finish them. There are some good parts but overall wasn’t really a page turner for me. Starts off with way too many pov switches. Wasn’t really familiar with characters fr until the 3rd novel. I’m a big Star Wars fan so gave it a chance. Never really read Star Wars novels, mainly comics. I hear phase 2 of The High Republic is really good, better than phase one, but it’ll probably be some time before I pick the series back up tbh.
From there I read Isles of the Emberdark, pretty good Cosmere story. Definitely read it if you’re big on Cosmere lore.
Now reading Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Time, and this s*** is what I been looking for. This book is f***ing nuts. Got me looking at Spiders different
been taring through the book, almost done with it in bout a day n a half
will do!!
late to the party but the first red rising book was a solid read. I really enjoyed the story, the characters were a ton of fun, and it had some great action. I hear it’s the weakest book of the first trilogy, so I’m excited to get into book 2!
may have to make a thread for the series once I finish them.
