S*** pissed me off but incredible book

Dnf'd the castle by kafka. Not permanently, but it feels like the trial but less exciting and more frustrating. Clearly unfinished too.

I really like it so far

Reading this book on Napoleon and it basically said his wife was a w**** with black stubs for teeth from chewing on sugar cane, to the point where she had to smile with her mouth closed.

She was a single mother of a 16 year old that she had with her cousin, and she was 30 years old when she met the man. It was remarked that though she was sociable, she wasn’t really all that intelligent. Like a lot of French women in that time, she was promiscuous, running in the same circle as her friend, who had relations with so many officials that they allegedly referred to her as “government property.”

Prior to pursuing Napoleon, she had a relationship with boss Paul Barras, who eventually kicked her to the curb and said some s*** like “I’ve had my fun with her.”

Then she tells her son to introduce her to napoleon and they were married five months later. What the hell was wrong with that nigga? Josephine had so many red flags she could’ve made a dress with them. Nigga went out and married the worst woman he could find

I will check this out when I am done with the book so I can compare perspectives. It is strange because the author has gone out of his way to dispel slander and rumors about Napoleon many times, so it was crazy to see him just go in like that.

Been seeing more and more people reading in public since that Atlantic article, especially fiction. Ppl asking me what I'm reading and actually seeming interested. It's a beautiful thing.

Reading a book in public signals a type of safeness within an individual. Read in a line waiting for your coffee and watch the room grow warmer and inspire in depth conversations around you. People just feel more comfortable around you if you are seen reading. it happened around me twice now, they see me crack open a book instead of going on my phone and next thing you know, there's a conversation between friends talking about the last book they read or expressing interest in reading again. Just seeing someone with a book in their hands is enough to inspire change, it seems. Anything to get people reading.

I've even started unashamedly using books as a fashion accessory, carrying them around and matching them with my outfits. Books are cool as f***. We need more people to see other people with books. That performative reading s*** is right wing propaganda, I swear. Read performative if you have to.

hopefully reading becomes a trend after such a downturn in literacy. Will be a sure fire tell that we're healing as a society.

I love Barnes & Noble, but it is just fiscally irresponsible to shop there when I can get the book for like half off on Amazon. I wish they either did more sales or just sold em cheaper.

picked up a kobo clara bw. i used to love reading as a kid but fell off of it like a lot of people. i still read a lot of manga and stuff but never novels or anything. i hope that having a device that i can just pick up and start reading will get me back into it. already downloaded a lot of stuff and got it all ready for when the kobo arrives

more often than not it’s the same people who only post the first page/chapter of a book to feign sophistication

usually the readers I've met who are chill dont go out of their way to tote what books they read it's more subtle in manner

I only do that when the price isn’t outrageous and the discrepancy isn’t much. I bought The Count of Monte Cristo from my local B&N for $16. That’s 1.2K pages for a little over $15. Of course I’m going to do that.

But they were charging the same price for A Wizard of Earthsea, and that s*** is only like 270 pages. Why would I pay that instead of getting it for $8 on Amazon?

I ordered naked lunch by william burroughs cause when i tried to watch the movie I felt like a dullard who couldn't tell his a****** from a hole in the ground. Hopefully the novel with clear things up cause i love Cronenberg and desperately want to experience the movie with more context.

Wheel of time is one of the greatest series of all time. I’ve given five stars to so many books in that series. God I may have to re-read it sooner than I thought.
